Photography course

Not heard of this one up till now, there are a few mentioned here though, check my posts and you will see comment on them, there are at least two others with fees of around £350/£500 per course, and you will get "their own" Diploma at the end. Whilst they may help develop skills, they are not recognised by any education establishment as real qualifications, the OCA http://www.oca-uk.com/about/ba-hons-photography-degree course will give you a certificate in higher education after the first section of modules, a proper Diploma after the second lot, and if you complete the full course you will earn a proper Degree.

The snag is that this will take you years and cost almost £5000, out of the other lot, it's worth looking at the websites and registering your interest or for their newsletter, as some will send you discount e-mails.

I too am considering one, but I hope for some decent feedback from one of them before I jump in.

Cheers.

Do you want to do the course just for learning about photography and to take good photos or do you want to do it with a view to make a career. Why don't you enquire in your community college.? I did a course and doing one now in the community college and it is pretty good.

If any one has any info or experience on the o c n can you please post them thank you

Photography is a great hobby and a great fun way to maybe earn a bit of cash once in a while, but as a full time job, that's something different all together. I guess it's like loving cooking and then ending up in a restaurant kitchen sweating away for hours. Great for the highly talented (and lucky) few, but for most of us a wonderful hobby can become a real trudge.

I was a creative and imaginative snapper in my formative days, always shooting through something, loads of motion blurr and grain. Then I started as a product snapper and boring repetitive work was as mindeless as any job.

That said it paid the mortgage but even that's hard to achieve now. I spend most of my working week teaching people to take pictures for their websites, shops, estate agencies and so on, so there are even less options for photography as a career. The libraries have taken their toll as well. I used to get called to shoot all sorts of odd stuff for brochures retc. Now it's so much cheaper to download a shot than hire a snapper.

But I'm just a cynical old pro who in his fifties has discovered the joys of teaching our craft and, for the first time in 25 years, the sheer pleasure of amateur photography!!

Good luck.

Iv looked at almost every course going, this is probably the best course if you want a proper qualification at the end of it, but the OCA's course is still a little misleading, you will have to spend £1500 on the 3 modules over 3 years to even get recognised!! Me personally, I want to be able to enjoy photography as a hobby and maybe a money earner so maybe try the photography institute or the institute of professional photography they offer great courses at reasonable prices and gives you enough knowledge an skill to go out and take great pics! After all researching and trying new things makes you a better photography!
