Hi all,

firstly, apologies if this is in the wrong category, couldn't decide where it should go.

I have had my DSL for a few months now and I am happy with the shots I am taking but really want to improve. I have been reading up on here and submitting my pics for critique which is really helping. I also have a load of magazines I read that are also useful.

I am however after a decent book that helps me with techniques, understanding settings etc but there are so many on the market I can't decide whats worth reading and whats not.

Do you peeps have some suggestions for me please?

Thanks

Rob

Cue the first of many people to suggest 'Understanding Exposure' by Bryan Peterson. :)

cheers pal,

Ill look it up

Hi Rob,

I'm very much a beginner too. I found Understanding Exposure very useful.

Am now looking for a book leaning more towards composure, I have been recommended a couple from people on TP but have left the details at work unfortunately.

Ditto that... 'Understanding Exposure' and one of his other books, 'Learning to see creatively', were (and continue to be) my inspirational photography bibles when I first got into photography two years back.

And another for above book...

Have recently had a good look at his latest book..."understanding shutter speed" and this seems like a good read as well..

Maybe your local library have it to borrow?

Always good to keep your composure when taking photos! ;)

If your looking at composition though, I have just started The Photographer's Eye by Michael Freeman and I like what I've read so far.

I'll blame it on the hangover from hell mate!!! ;)

Actually Fabs, that is the book I had written down. Gonna try and buy it up town today, seems to be sold out everywhere online at the mo.

You tried here?.

Sorry, scratch that. Comes up as unavailable. I got mine in a bookshop in Cambridge a couple of weeks ago so hopefully there will be copies about.

Ok, the Photographer's Eye book by Michael Freeman is mainly out of stock because the book is due for a reprint in October, so retailers aren't replenishing current stock.

thanks for all your help peeps, ordering "understanding exposure" today. Found it on amazon for £11 - bargain.

No worries Murph.

You can still get the latest version through Waterstones. If they don't have it available at your local store then they can get it sent over from another of their branches.

I don't work for them BTW:lol:

My copy of Photographer's Eye turned up yesterday at local Waterstones, so will be picking up today.

Had a quick look yesterday and it looks extremely good for new compositional ideas, for those of us who aren't naturally gifted with the eye

Cheers

Nice, will look out for a copy.

My Copy of understanding exposure turned up two daysago now, can't put it down. It is fantastic. It makes it all seem so logical you find yourself wondering why you didn't work it out before!!

Thanls for all your help peeps.
