I am a relative newbie in the photography world/just getting back into it and wish to progress from my compact Fuji (mostly used on an auto setting) to a DSLR. Everything I learnt about SLR’s years ago is almost forgotten so an anyone advise is of a good book that will provide me with more than just the basics?

Thanks in advance.

Depends on what you are looking for:
- guide in general for SLRs
- composition/exposure/lighting techniques
- general photography guides
- etc

Let us know and we can point you in the right direction.

Also look at the two books done by Scott Kelby that might help you.

guide in general for SLRs
general photography guides

sounds about right as

composition/exposure/lighting techniques
may be a bit beyond me

I really liked one of the Scott Kelby books. Corny jokes and humour, but it gave straight tips and how-to's right from the beginning. Unfortunately it's called something else in Polish but it was something along the lines of the Digital SLR handbook. It has a somewhat darker cover with a DSLR on it.
