Looking for a little inspiration and looking for a couple of decent photography books to give me some pointers and some inspiration on what to take.
I'm planning on buying Understanding Exposure before anyone suggests it :nono:

But looking for a book on low light photography and maybe one that can give me some pointers in terms of composition.

For composition I have the 'Photographers Eye' by Michael Freeman. Enjoyed the read and quite eye opening with regards to different ways to compose shots ie. diagonals etc. I've even used it as a reference tool!!

Tom Ang is legendary and has done some very good books and mentions all you need to know about exposure and all types of photography, including night shots and low light. I have his book called digital photography masterclass, which should be available in your local Waterstones. If it is also inspiration you are after, included in every chapter of the book is an assignment. Sadly it cannot be marked, but you have many examples to compare to in the book. Here is a link to Amazon with fantastic reviews: Click Here

I quite often buy books from www.thebookpeople.co.uk. They are currently offering two Tom Ang books.

Digital Photography Masterclass (referred to by Voodoochild) for £6.99 (RRP £20.00) and Digital Photographer's Handbook for £6.99 (RRP 25.00).

Postage is £3.50 but free on orders over £25.00.

Been looking at these books full price wondering **** one to get, think I'll get both at that price

I ended up ordering both. Couldn't turn down what looks to be a bargain, but I ended up spending £75. Go figure! At least my lad will also be happy with Top Gear, World of Cars, Hairy McLairyand Superphonics. And the missus even gets a free 2010 diary.

As well as Understanding Exposure, I'd recommend any of Bryan Petersons books.

For inspiration, I wouldn't necessarily stick with 'how to' books, I take great inspiration from books of photographs, especially '5000 Days', which is a whole bunch of press photographs from about 1990.

I have selected books on each page of my site 2 per page top right these link straight to amazon.
I think one or two of these might help. To help with the photographers eye you should look at books by great photographers in the domain of your work

I have that, it is brilliant! A thoroughly good read and every now and then I will go back and re read chapters so that everything stays sharp on the brain. Some of his examples and work and just eye poppingly good

might put a photography book on the xmas list ;-)

keep them coming

Just seen this book for the first time this week - it's gone straight on the Xmas list! :) Try your library BTW - I currently have an Ang book on loan...

Recently I was also on the hunt for some good photography books so after a very comprehensive search on google, I found the following books on at least 10 different 'top 10 photography books'.

1. Understanding Exposure

2. The Digital Photography Book (I have a copy which I have found very useful)

3. The Photographers Eye

4. Digital Photography Masterclass (I have a copy and despite all the good reviews I dont really find it useful)

i've seen this one mentioned a few times:
Understanding Exposure

which one specifically for a novice?

popped into waterstones to have a flick through the layout of understanding exposure. like the pics and layout of text, so might put that on xmas shopping wish list
