Just had a birthday and am after a decent photograph book. Basically I want something that touch the basics but also go a bit deeper. Not too bad with technical stuff so something aimed more at an intermediate level would be fine.

The things I tend to be photographing are Landscapes, so book dedicated to this wouldn’t be out of a question.

Any one read or know of a decent book that would be suitable

Hi, I have found these two books to be very useful: The Digital Photography Book by Scott Kelby, and Collins Digital SLR Handbook by John Freeman. I don't think much of Freeman's images, but he does explain things pretty well.
 
For a straight text-book, Langford's Basic Photography is a pretty good book. You get quite a lot for your money too, which is always nice.

I agree, dont necessarily like his writing style but the information is sound and well explained with lots of examples.

According to Amazon there's a 3rd edition due out in a few month. Might be worth hanging fire if you choose this book.
 
Not a massive fan of UE by Bryan Peterson.

Digital Photography Masterclass by Tom Ang is a frequent read of mine.
 
Scott Kelby books are good value.
But you have to like his style of writing - it's not everyone's cuppa chai....

I think they are selling all the Scott Kelby books in Costco (volumes 1 to 3) for 6.50 each. Handy if you have a costco card and want to have a quick peek before making your mind up.
 
+1 for Understanding Exposure, Peterson's style of writing isn't the greatest but it covers the basics in an easy to follow layout and it has some excellent tips.

For landscapes Transient Light by Ian Cameron is a good read.

I highly recommend The Photographer's Eye by Michael Freemen (check it's the right book, there's another of the same title by a different author) which is a good introduction to composing the image (a much neglected skill).
