Hi,

I was originally just looking for a nice backdrop to take some maternity shots and then baby shots once little one is born. Then i saw some of these kits on ebay and not sure whetehr I should go the full hog and get a backdrop stand and some basic lights.

Has anyone used anything like this? Or have any better suggestions for the money?

Thanks,

James.

Its one of the cheapest kits i've seen. I'd probably go for the kit without the constant lighting though at around £70 and get some flash units/off camera flash guns for illumination.

Is that because the lighting quality is rubbish? Do you know where you can getthe stands a nd backdrop for £70 I can't find them with black and white backdrops.

Many thanks

To be honest i don't really know but just from my limited knowledge i'd prefer to use flash rather than constant lights, i doubt they would be great or have enough power for that price but am happy to be corrected.

If you look in the sellers other items he lists a kit with just the stands and backgrounds minus lights.

Frankly, the lights are totally useless - but the rest of the kit seems to me to be good value

One of these pop-up backgrounds might be worth a look - then a bounced flash or just window light would be a good start.. A cheap stand and umbrella would be even better, though I am spending more and more of your money..

An even cheaper alternative would be a pole, an ironed sheet and a few clips, with any spare cash put towards a flash ?

Some good suggestions there thanks guys. Ideally I want a black and white background.

Depends on how much space you have available... try warehouse express, some small and very large b/g there. Photodeals too for one with a train.

The lights on that will be pants, better off with flash.

What is a train? Those collapsible ones on photodeals look good. Think I want 3mx2m

If its any help I got a flash kit from one of these ebay traders, its very good to start out with. I also got a large 3m back drop and white train. I have since got a lastolite pro reversable black and white pop-up backdrop which is very good. The flash units are ok, I have 3 180s. however I am now looking at getting 1 larger 300. You dont need loads of lights. more lights = more complicated. I have used 1 light with softbox and got great results.

Thanks I like those lastolite backdrops look similar to photodeals ones.
