Hi there - it has been a long time since I took a camera to St James' Park in Newcastle…. can anyone tell me if you are allowed to take kit in to get some shots? We have decent tickets for the Boxing Day match. Thanks for your time.
As per Premiership rules you're not allowed to take professional type cameras to a football match so it's unlikely that you'd be allowed to use it. I went to a Liverpool match a while ago and took a bridge camera in my coat pocket and even got some decent shots with it, I was near a steward as well and he didn't seem bothered about the camera but a dslr and separate lenses might bring you to their notice a bit more.
There's been a few threads regarding this subject, here's one http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/threads/photographing-the-football-league-or-premier-league.301010/ you might find interesting. I suppose you could always take the camera and shoot until they tell you otherwise, if they confiscate your camera it will be held in a secure area until after the game and you'll get a receipt for it as well. I was expecting this to happen when I took my camera but I've been to matches in Liverpool, Sheffield (United), Nottingham (both Forest and County) Lincoln and a few other grounds over the last few years with a bridge camera and not had a problem. I'm getting an Eos M for christmas and might take that and my Tamron 28-300 VC next time.
