I have just recently befriended a couple who's husband is a Star Gazer with a massive scope.they are to invite me over when they feel the time will be right for some viewing.
I understand there are adapters that can be purchased to fit to the scopes, would i be looking for an accessorie for my camera or an accessorie for the scope.

Thanks

Rocket, depends on the scope really, do you know what it is ? Really though for your D80 you'd need a T thread adapter and nose piece, or the MaxDSLR adapter. Hard to be precise without knowing more details. Both are available from here and other places. If it's a really massive scope, is it on a wooden base that rotates or an enormous tripod with counterweights.

John, thanks for the reply.
I know very little about the scope itself, apart from quickly viewing it, its some 4ft long with a circrumfrence of around 30 inches on a very sturdy tripod.
I will view the links you gave so i have some knowledge on my next visit to them, i can then check out more of the scope.they are not that far away so its going to be easy traveling..

regards

Ok, if it's on a sturdy tripod, and given the size, it's probably mounted on an Equatorial mount (designed to track the stars in the most efficient way if setup properly). To do any form of star shot with it though, it needs to be motorised or you'll trail almost immediately. The shots I posted today and over the weekend, were all between 30 seconds and 2 minutes, and my powered tripod keeps the objects in position. The Eyepiece fit will determine which connection you need, and whether you need an adapter at all. It may be that the end of the eyepiece drawtube will unscrew to reveal a standard T thread.

Looking back John, it was your Seven Sisters that inspired me to find out more on the subject.
My new found friend has been into this for many years and holds a lot of information.
So on my next visit i will be able to find out more on the scope and that of which i need, already your link has given me some ideas as to what i might well need.
Thanks

I'm only glad to help out.
