Photographing teenagers

I've been asked to photograph my mate's two boys next year. One's 14 and one's 18 and they're quite quiet boys. Has anyone got any ideas for poses for them and how I can make it fun?
 
All go naked?............:naughty:

Probably not, but I thought you needed cheering up a bit after reading earlier threads, I figure it worked a tad................:thumbs:

Anyone with suggestions that won't end with me going to prison? ;) :lol:
 
If you can get hold of the last two month's back copies of Advanced Photographer, they've got a decent posing guide for families and children.
 
Are they young children though or sullen teenagers that don't want to be photographed?
 
Mixed ages. The current one might still be in WH Smith. The new edition comes out tomorrow.

Last month's (Dec) is probably what you'd want.

18 year olds are kind of too cool for school so maybe try band or singer style poses... moody leaning against a wall, nothing silly or over posed. Try them not looking at the camera and in to negative space, or looking directly at the camera but not smiling.

14 year old will be more tricky... do they play the guitar or football? Both would be good as natural and as they'll no doubt be an awkward teenager (they all are I think) means again no real posing required. Playing the guitar is easy to get good shots of... doing keepy ups with the ball is a good one if they play football

Just my thoughts but hope they are helpful :)
 
Here's one I did of an awkward 17 year old last year... he seems to love the pic as has had it as his facebook profile for the last 12 months

I'm unable to drive anywhere while in plaster so can't get out. I'll have a look online. Thanks

Thanks Andy, much appreciated. They're both rugby players so I suppose I can grab a rugby ball and use that as a prop. I'll ask about the guitar etc. I don't think either of them are.

I was thinking of also doing the water wig thing with them as a bit of fun at the end.

Yeah that would be a good idea... I think go along the lines of not making them pose as it'll be unnatrual to them and at that age will more than likely come across as awkward.

Props and fun things will result in the best images I think :)
 
This is the problem that I've been thinking of. I can get a 3 year old girl and her 18 month old brother to pose. But getting teenage boys to pose might be like askng for the moon :lol:

So I suppose, my initial question was wrong. It's not so.much a question of what poses but actually what to do. Cheers Andy

And I say sullen. They're not actually sullen as such. They're quite happy lads but in front of a camera might be different. Want to make it fun for them. We live by a country park so.I thought we might use that too
 
No probs :)

If you do decide to do any posed shots might be a good idea to go on google and type in 'Jake Bugg' and go to images... he's quite a young guy (18 I think) and the older one might like those kind of poses and images.

Depends though really as he might think it's OTT and that his mates will laugh at him for trying to be 'cool'.

Worth having a look though maybe :)
 
Yeah I've heard of Jake Bugg. He's supporting Stone Roses next year :D will have a look. Cheers
 
You coud get them to hold the rugby ball with one hand each. And at the mark get them to try to win it one handed.
