Yes
I've been doing evening classes on photography and at the end of the year will be putting six images in an exhibition along with others from this course and other local courses. The images must have a theme to them and I've decided to show movement in still images as my theme.

So far I have a milky waterfall, startrails, car light trails, and a panning shot of horses racing. My problem is ideas for the other two  If anyone has any ideas for showing movment it would be appreciated if you let me know. I am going to the local speedway on Saturday to see what I can get but think that will be another panning shot so repeating the horse race shot so not sure about that???

What about moving the camera? put it on a roundabout or something so theres something/someone sharp and the background totally blured.
Another idea is second curtain flash so you have the motion blur but something sharp at the end.
Just a few ideas.

Second curtain flash. Hadn't thought of that, never tried it before but know the theory so yes I'll give that a go thanks Wayne. That will be a beer in the Red Cow, Pontsticll if your there next week.

A longish exposure of a railway station concourse or museum with the figures blurred?

Theres always the throwing the camera up in the air trick!

Ohhh I might hold you to that :)

Nah dont worry about catching it - you still got the image on the card by the time it comes down :)

Zoom blur/burst is a good idea, a bit liek what I've done in my shot here

I know its not the best but its the only one I had uploaded and you get the idea :)

+1. I always like well done versions of these, although yet to try it myself. However, as others have said, maybe a different type of movement (camera movement as opposed to movement of an object/person/thing) might be good to try.

How long have you got before you need to submit? Could you wait a little and do the traditional crops blowing in the wind shot?

Thanks for the input (except AndyB :p;)). I'll be trying the second curtain flash over a pool/snooker table so thats one out of the way and will probably use a long exposure of people moving around for the other. As these are needed in the next few weeks I don't have time for fields of wheat etc so will have to save that for another occasion. Zoom burst I think shows lens movment not subject movment so might not fit in with the theme . The multi strobe shot is out on the grounds that the only flash I have is the built in one on the camera and I can't see that being up to the job.

Once again thanks for taking the time to read and reply.

You should be able to pick up a cheap old second hand flash for a few quid (just don't chance it on the camera) but for strobe off camera effects it should work fine.
