I have been asked by one of the coaches at the Rugby club I both play and photograph for today if next time they are home could I come and take some photographs for them, I wasn't able to talk long so wasn't able to go into details of It with them but I understand that before I can do this I would need parents consent etc as per the CPSU (Child Protection In Sport Unit).

I will be going back to the coach to advise re permissions etc but just want some clarification from anyone who has done this in the past to ensure I get it right. Also does anyone have a consent form I can look at to know what I would need to use.
 
Darren, if this is RL which may or may not be different to union you do not need parental consent, parents when signing on their child sign to give consent for little jonny to be photographed for club purposes etc, etc, however some kids may be wards of court or mums/kids may be subject to some form of protection order so always ask, nor do you need a CRB check unless you would be working with lone children but always best to get yourself covered, the club themselves should get this for you.

Parents are the ones who dont understand the rules but it is always best to introduce yourself to the opposition coach/parents and explain youre connected to the home club

Thanks Gary. This is Rugby Union. Looking at my fixture book they have a child protection officer and a safe guarding officer for the mini section so I will speak to them re this.
 
Same here for rugby when I photographed my kids or the team, I never asked.
 
I was asked not to photograph the kids at my local club as I had no connection with it apart from been a supporter and living 5 min from the ground, They then asked my to pay them £35 to become a member
and become there team photography :eek:

needless to say I have been warmly welcomed at another club (half hour drive) who may end up playing there final at Twickenham & have also stated that they would pay for my membership themselves if needed :LOL:

you never asked what?

I always 100% speak to both managers or whoever is in charge before photogrpahing any kids event. (I try to do this days before if possible) . No I dont have to.. it comes under the common sense and good manners bit :)

I used to speak to both coaches before the game.. Straight after I'd go and introduce myself to the away team parents... I only ever had one problem with a parent at a North Leeds team. Its also a great time to hand out business cards promoting both you and your website.
 
I used to photograph fans on a home matchday at Headingley for Leeds Rhinos games and usually asked the parents before i took the photos if it was okay, as i was doing it for the club anyway, it was more providing a better matchday experience for the fans as the photos then appeared in the next home game programme with a chance to win tickets etc.. I never posted any of the photos on any of my personal sites...website..facebook page etc. but they did appear on the teams facebook fan page.
