Hey folks,
I have recently spent some time in the studio photographing males using a new lighting setup (for me). It would be nice to know your thoughts. Please click the link as I dont want to spam this thread with images ;)

If anyone is curious about the lighting - large softbox in close - camera right, large octa pulled back for fill - behind camera, hair light bare bulb - camera left, and bare bulb light on background for separation.
I hope you like them ;)

These are very good,i would be very happy with those.:)

Some nice work there. Did you use a MUA? The glow on the left looks good but on a couple of the Glyn shots it looks a tad sweaty. Must be a devil to get that just right.

I didn't have an MUA, photographing males was something I wanted to work on and needed to watch the budget :/
It was something I seriously considered but I didn't follow through with it, tbh I know better, I was lazy!
Yes Glynn was sweaty and were possible dampened down - one major danger of such high quality images I guess, you see every pour ;)

whilst a great set of portraits, i'd be cautious with th amount of skin pp, especially the last one with the bearded chap...his skin look far too smoothed out. Like I said though, good work :)

I think a male face needs to look lived-in so tend to shoot with a gridded BD (but that's my preference and in no way the "correct" way)

I agree, I did overdo his skin and realised when I did the others, I just didnt go back and re-edit it. His rosey cheeks are also not great for his look :P

They're all very good. But I LOVE the first one. To me, it looks very natural, and un-posed, and you seemed to have caught his personality in the photo.

DUDE absolutely love these photos. Care to share this new technique i struggle doing any portrait work well making them look good.
