Im going down into town today to get some snaps of the buildings etc etc, im hoping to photograph inside the main church if it is open.

Is this allowed? Obviously if i see the vicar i will ask him if am ok doing so, but of not do i just walts in and start clicking away?

Bearing in my i will have all my kit there, tripod and all, i just dont want to come across as rude or get myself in a spot of bother.!

I have never had a problem (yet!!), as you say always best to check with the priest first I suppose.

If there is someone there ask. Also a small contribution never does any harm.

You dont say what town is town? someone may have been before and can help..

I went to the big one in hereford and they made it quite clear flash photography was not allowed and in some parts no photography at all....

Simple answer...ask :)

Which may not be open.

Generally speaking churches are OK with photography inside, but may ask for a small donation. Expect some of them to bar you using a tripod on obstruction/ health and safety grounds, and a tripod is often pretty well essential.

I have never been to a church that has had a problem, but it's down to the individual clergyperson so if in doubt, ask!
Some have a mandatory donation to use your camera, but I always drop something in the collection box if they don't.

i have been to a few and quite happy to point out some good features in their respective chruch. A donation will almost certainly let you take what you please. it has worked for me in the past!

This is something I wouldn't mind doing but, as others have said, it does no harm to ask and a couple of quid in the collection box wouldn't be refused.

If you get some pics, don't forget to post 'em here! ;)

Ive got plenty! I spoke to the vicar who was very friendly, he's got me doing the photography for the charity postcards and a pamphlet (what? mong spelling?).

Not too bad of a day i suppose apart from i was there for 3 hours...taking photos of every single freeking thing! and the weather being a little :bang:...

I also went out at 5:30 this morning to the nearest motorway and took some photos, i was hoping for a good sunrise but it was way too overcast.

I hope you enjoyed my breif sorty of the day  :shake:

Ill post some up soon once ive sorted through the 250 i need to email the church :help:

:)

I had my huge monfrotto out, everything fully extended with my biggest lens on snapping away and he was loving it!

LOL It varies so much. Lichfield Cathedral used to let you shoot all day if you liked for a quid, and had no objections to tripods, but the last time I went the verger rather sternly told me 'No tripods'. I managed to convince him that a tripod was essential and showed him the tripod erected with a very small footprint - a narrower leg spread than was really desirable, and he relented, but while I was there he had that slightly worried look of a guy who'd just made a bad career decision. :D
