Photographing Fireworks .... and getting usable results

Can it be done handheld without a tripod ?

Can anyone recommend settings ?

Thanks

It can be done hand held if your good  but it depends on the look your going for, if freezing the action with a sun 1 second exposure it should be perfectly possible, if your going for say a 10 second exposure to catch multiple fireworks and associated trails then tripod and trigger is really the only way..

As to settings I tend to use bulb so I can perfectly time my exposure to the intensity of the fireworks, approx f/9 and approx ISO500

You'll probably find it useful to read my guide to firework photography there is a link to it in my signature : thumbs:

Amazing what you come across by idly browsing - been thinking about trying star trails and came across the link to Mathews guides - many thanks.
