I thought some might be interested in something of which happened today and could be helpful for others trying to photograph birds in the garden. http://www.rspb.org.uk/wildlife/birdguide/name/c/chaffinch/index.asp
This afternoon sat out in the back garden, over looking the fields, my son sat beside me with his laptop, he had logged onto the RSPB site, where he was listerning to Bird songs for his studies at College.
Anyway, we discovered while playing them back, we suddenly had an influx of birds such as Chaffinch etc, The real interesting part was they were coming in really really close and returning there appropriate song, he then transfered some to his phone, walked towards the trees, just as if it was magic, all these birds were following him round the garden.

Just a thought for those that would like to encourage and get close ups of birds..

As a member of songbird survival there can be no harm done in the procedure mentioned, infact it can encourage birds to your garden for a closer look, which can then be recorded and placed into your data.
It has been a good way of photographing birds close up, somthing that i have only just thought of...

Not recommended for Seagulls either...

i had some raptor sounds on my phone - for recognition 'in the field' and played it around a load of birds in a bush. Didn't seem to care, ignorant fools, 'will cost them their lives !!!

but i may try this out sometime maybe
