Photographing babies

I would assume that as babies have yet to learn to focus their eyes, the iris is wide open thus revealing more of the pupil (black centre of the eye), therefore the eyes appear black in the final image.
 
Was Carl Orff's O Fortuna from Carmina Burana playing in the background as you took the photo? :D
