I am a bit stumped on this one, i recently got a helmet custom painted and wanted to take some really different shots of it but cant think of any interesting ways to do it. If anyone has any suggestions i would really appreciate it.

This is the helmet in question i took this yesterday just to show it off to people :)

Put it on a nude/swimsuit model:bonk::bonk::bonk:

Do you have a flashgun and some way of using it off camera? Some dramatic directional lighting would help I think.

Place it on a kids merry-go-round and spin it while you shoot from the other side = panning helmet shot!?

It is the background that is spoiling the shot.

Pure black will show it off nicely, I have done an edit if you wan to see it. Have a look in my gallery in my profile for a look.

Not sure about to day
but

Was all ways told you should never paint a helmet as the paint can interact with the materials the helmet is made of... this making it not fit for purpose...

So long as you use the right paint you will be fine. Every single helmet you see on a driver will have been hand painted specially for them. And even then I think a lot of paints are now water based so even DIY jobs would probably be okay.

One thing you could do is shoot it inside a light tent to get that nice all round bright white background.

Ah right, crash helmet;)

...am I the only one who lol'd when I read the title in the thread list :lol:

Oh, just me then :exit:

It depends what material the helmet is made from and what paint is used.

Not so much of an issue these days. It was the solvents that attacked polycarbonate shells and solvent based paint is less common these days and water based (which is what they paint cars with) does not have the same effect on the structure of the helmet.

The solvent could also have an effect on the styrene liner but if masked properly that should not have ever been an issue.
