I have a couple of days in Manchester approaching. The libraries and museums and look good - hopefully for photography as well as simply having a look round. But what else? Any specific areas recommended for some street photography? There must be some nice industrial / canal shots to be had? Needs to be in walking distance of the centre, but I'll have about 5 hours on both days so I've got time to wander reasonably far and wide. Anywhere to avoid?

Cheers
Derek

John Rylands Library is good but no tripods, but I've used a gorillapod without problems.

Check photography rules on your way into the museums, some can be funny about it.
There is a constant redevelopment going on in Manchester at the moment, lots of new bars and restaurants, you'll find some interesting people around them as all the "cool" people try and find the best new places.

You might want to edit that!

Is that your thing?

Typing on a bl**dy phone!!!! Anyway its @mickledore who has been down there at night.:p

John Rylands Library is a very good shout, camera (not tripod) friendly. I've never had any issues photographing in Museum OF Science And Industry, Whitworth Gallerey, Art Gallery or Library, so you should be fine on all of those.

HOME has some interesting buildings, but is private land, security don't seem keen on anything bigger than a phone taking pictures. Spinningfields also is private land, but security are happy for you to take pictures as long as they are not for commercial use.

But...have you been watching the BBC series on the Manchester Police? There was a homeless guy in that area who was murdered then his tent was set on fire!
Just near here...

If you go into the Lowry car park and walk all he way to the very top floor you can do some good high level long exposure stuff. But hide behind a pillar then the security goons don't see you.

+ 1 for Media City at Salford Quays. Blue hour and nighttime shots everywhere. Will post some later when home.
