Have you looked at BTEC courses in photography?
They're very good apparently, though I don't know if you can do them entirely at home or not.

Most local colleges will do a City and Guilds course or BTEC. I am currently doing a diploma with the photography institute, which is a self-paced home study course and so far i have found it very good. The New York Institute of Photography also do a home study course that might be work looking at.

Open college of the arts does a degree. You get a BA in creative arts but you can do the whole lot in photography modules. Costs just over £4K though. Yikes!

Is £4k not cheap as degrees go?

And at the end of it you have the recognition & satifying feeling of having a degree, I am looking into doing this course too :) sounds good!

I had an interview for a degree today...she stated that she was impressed with my work and knowledge and then proceeded to bitch for the remaining 40 minutes (out of 45) about my disability before stating that my work and knowledge are sufficient to get onto the course, but thought it may not be practical because of my disability.... sick and tired, really physically tired, of fighting to be treat like every other person, whether it be going for a meal, purchasing something or applying for a degree. She told me to fill in the form and she'd call me for a second interview, but TBH, I don't want to spend 3 years, 1 and a half days a week, in the same room as that biggot.

Unless you are blind I do not see (no pun intended) how disability is relevant. Besides is that "interview" not illeagal and monitored by the conversation police? :rules:

yep, illegal not to make reasonable ajustments etc etc and you're completely right. TBH I'm furious over it all, but I am physically tired as well as mentally, for fighting for my rights.

Sadly none of the 3 uni's near me do part time photography (couldn't physically manage a F/T course) so will have to find an alternative solution.

Seriously, she had objections to me having 1-to-1 support (care and other issues like note taking) for the course - which isn't legal for her to object to. If I did continue with the application and I did get on the course (theoretically I'd be at an advantage by discrimination, which IMO sucks, I want to get accepted for my abilities and nothing else!) I strongly feel that she would make things as difficult as possible for the duration.

Hi Sorry to hear about the way you were treated, she sounds like a judgemental person, she shouldn't treat you differently because of a disability, the interview should of been about your work not about your disability.People should be more understanding, I have a visual disability (a few years ago one of my teachers wrote me off at college because of my disabilty and wasn't very supportive or understanding.I stuck it out and passed the course which I was really chuffed about), I'm not surprised you don't want to spend 3 years with someone like that. She should of treated you with more respect, sorry for waffling :).

The open college of art does look interesting. their web site is very good... although their telephone support is poor. Just called them to ask about credit transfer and got a faceless answer machine.

There are details of cedit transfer on their web site, which allows foe accreditation of experience based learning. I might consider putting a portfolio together.

I would not entertain doing a degree course like this unless I could skip the first level.
