Photographers Vests that don't make you look like a dork

I've got a Hi-Vis vest and a Baseball cap with the TPF logo on it , all was going ok until Kimi pushed me over :(

haha :D

I need a hi-vis vest for the next motorsport event I go to, at the one I went to today it seemed to act as an "go anywhere you want" badge.

right... i want one!

i love Alpinestars stuff and it is one of the few 'brands' i actually wear.
i know its sad but i think its cool and i want one i want one i want one!(throws toys out pram)

come on guys, someone must know someone

i think you will end up looking like a dork, hey it's not that bad if you are being paid - think of it as being a pro- dork

i use the low pro jacket - when i need to (look like a dork) the rest of the time i use a rucksack and combat trousers (black) for the bits (-dork)

I work in the construction industry and never thought of taking a hi-vis vest when out with the camera.

A mate at work takes his wife around with him to carry all his gear!

Nothing could make me look more of a dork than I already do!

I might have to get a hi-vis rest now :D its all about looking like a dork lol

maybe I can get "Press" or "Moment Capturer" on the back hehe

I find wandering around with my camera and 100-300mm f/4 attached to my monopod (extra-chunky Manfrotto jobby) clears the decks better than a hi-viz vest.

It's the same at work, or out taking pics - as long as you LOOK like you know what you're doing, no-one will bother questioning you!

My old day time job being a video camera man with a large probody camera large lens, largish vinten tripod, never get questioned unless u find a jobsworth lol.

The Hi-Viz is the key to getting around with not being asked, although walking down the high street with no kit would be erm odd :cuckoo:

well i asked and i still dont!

i sent an email off the Alpinstars last night with regard to the vests and have just had this reponse...

Are you saying you want to get full season credentials for one of those series so that you can get a vest??

Have fun trying to get Champ Car credentials

that did sound pretty bad i must admit... im not quite that bonkers:bonk:

i would love to get closer to the action though and would love to know how to go about getting 'credentials'?(and a vest )

i did wonder :)

by the way, well done for getting a reply.. I havent heard of anyone actually get a reply from Alpine Stars before.

I think you would have trouble getting a season pass for those series, though.. especially as most are in the US (and Champ Car doesnt exist anymore).
To get accreditation you would need to be working for a major publication or agency.
In the case of Moto GP you can get accreditation if you work for a website, but only if you pay 2000 euros per event (if i remember correctly)
I wouldnt bother applying for F1 as its too dangerous with Kimi about LOL

lol i was wondering. it did seem like a standard response and it would seem hasnt been updated for a few years. i have checked the web and the vests were discussed on a US forum last year and they had a response from Alpinestars saying you could buy one and they were less than $100
im wondering if somone is just being lazy there and cant be arsed to look. i have the same system in my office with customer service(dont buy inkjets from my company )

whats the best way to get track action? i must admit i rather like touring car but only ever seem to take photos of drifting as i have contacts in the scene.

I've got an Alpinestars A1GP one, it's pretty good, comfortable and with massive pockets that'll easily hold a 70-200. Much easier than carrying a bag.

Forget vests.. I wear this

Albeit not in the street, just when I'm photographing Airsofting. I can hold all my gear plus extras like water canteen, coat, radio and its lightweight = 5kg.

Doesn't the red x make you a bit of a target?;)

Aye it sure does. I usually just photograph as my AEGs are in the repair shop atm :(
