Photographers = terrorists apparently

And ??:thinking::thinking::shrug::shrug:

Well at least the pic is not a DSLR with a long lens!! The one I thought mad is that people with 2 mobiles could be terrorists as well, imagine the poor sod with 2 phones that take pictures - one phone their personal one and the other a work one

I'd like to think that common sense would be used in determining whether or not someone seemed to be acting oddly with a camera around say certain public buildings. Providing you aren't actually carrying out terrorist research then you should be OK. It's unfortunately just a reflection of the society that we seem to live in these days.

Given that most of the Police are more concerned with catching petty criminals I'd be shocked if any serious togger will have a problem assuming the common sense approach is adopted by both sides.

If there was a bobby on the beat rather than doing paperwork, riding around in theirs cars or speed trapping people at 31 miles an hour they could probably do the job themselves.

thats outrageous tbh.

But not surprising. The Governments continuing campaign to scare the public into thinking that terrorists are everywhere, so they can push through laws and bills that take away our civil rights, wage wars on innocent nations, and distract us from whats really happening in the world......oh sorry, wrong forum

I was going to have a rant about the boys in blue
but in fairness, I doubt that it's their doing
some plonker in head office having a senior moment is more likely

grrrrrrrrrr:bang:

Jeez, can't understand some of you lot.

It's a simple poster asking people to be vigilant and report suspiscious behaviour. Just because it is about taking photographs you make it sound like we're living in some third world dictatorship. It's not really any different from keeping a look out for unattended luggage at an airport.

Common sense was mentioned - use it before you post some inane anti-establishment rant!!!!

Yes, and it also reinforces the issue with the brain dead. I take it you heard about the man held after some stupid **** phoned in that he had a "suspiscious device, possibly a gun" on a bus? Yes, he was listening to an MP3 player!

So now that same person (or moronic sheep like them) is going to think exactly the same when they see a camera!

Unfortunately, the majority of the population don't seem to be able to employ common sense (particularly those taken in by tabloid crap), so will see this as "man with camera = potential terrorist"

Going to agree with the majority here - people in this country are far too taken in by the tabloid media.

Thats another step toward becoming like the US then. :(

:thumbs:i was going along with the thread for a laugh. well said though. :p

In a country that people take the tv soaps seriously, what do you expect.

indeed. what message this poster seems to say is not so much one of common sense more preying on easily influenced individuals who might otherwise not give a toss about anyone with a camera to now eye them suspiciously.

I reiterate my comments about wearing a hi-vis vest with 'terrorist research in progress' across the back...might seem a better idea than ever

and seeing as well all carry big bags on your backs we could be carrying bombs in there!! Thats what someone said to me once, I had my tripod bag on me and I got stopped by the police as they thought I had a shotgun in there. Then I showed them that it was a tripod and they left me alone!!!

i went to nyc couple yrs back, and took my slr as hand luggage, draped over my shoulder. They literally took the thing apart to see if i had stuffed anyhting in there. I can understand why of course, after 9/11. But the thought never crossed my mind that they might think a camera is harbouring a device of some sort????

Have to agree with Brash here too.

Also agree with Brash but it does depend on how the police react - if they also use some common sense when investigating calls.

Isn't that just telling photographers to watch what they are doing? :S

Tony

sorry, I clearly forgot my wink smiley.

But on a serious note.......the CIA are responsible for 9/11

I cant help it :help:

crikey....

Im in seriouse trouble. I have 2 mobile phones, a DSLR, a rucksack, gonna get myself a high vis vest with

DONT SHOOT AMATEUR PHOHOTOGRAPHY IN PROGRESS on the back (which is fine if im not wearing my rucksack)

Did the police use common sense in stockwell.....I think NOT!!

on a serous note, I think the nation really needs to get a grip. Stop believing the over hyped sensationalised tabloid (and some broadsheets) crap and start thinking for yourself.

If you are photographing a sensitive landmark and you get asked a few questions then be polite and helpfull. If something DID happen and it turned out that those pesky terrorists had been photographing potential sites we would be asking Why didnt the police ask any questions.or notice anything suspicios.

Unfortunatley terrorists look like you and me or any other of millions of tourists we get in this country every year. Hard to spot them. They donat ALL have hooks for hands, beard, false glasses and wear rain macks!

Be vigilant, be polite, and be helpfull. If everyone did that it would make everybodys life a bit easier.

IMHO of course!

(apologies for spelling...I am typing fast!)

To be honest, the people who are observant enough to notice a suspicious guy taking surveillance photos aren't exactly going to need to read this advert, are they?...

Hear, hear, be polite and then it is no hassle for all parties

If my posting was looked on as ranting then yes i was....deal with it!

Wouldn't they be better asking if we see someone suspicious taking photos of sensitive buildings etc that we take a photograph of them doing it?

This could cause a problem though if someone thinks your photographing a photographer is suspicious. A never ending chain of people photographing each other acting suspiciously....

gpc1, the police may not have used common sense in the stockwell incident, but you would be whinging if another tube had gotten blown up now wouldnt you.

What do you think!!:cuckoo::bonk:Yes I would be whinging of another tube got blown up. I would be equally peeved if another innocent bloke was killed becasue of an over reaction from the police. Which is my point exactly. If you get stopped and asked a few questions be polite, be helpfull, move on if necessary and come back another time.

i would rather they stopped and asked tahn did nothing!

COMMON SENSE IS NEEDED BY ALL.

can we get back to nice photography now please.....
