Photographer's Rights

I would rather ask a TP admin(s) if i needed advice on a legal issue involving Photography or other TP members that are used to doing street work within photography....

EDIT: Or look it up myself, or buy a book about it

As far as I know, although I'm more than happy to be corrected, you do not need to be a medical doctor to use the title 'Dr.'. You do need a doctoral degree though.

Not that this is of any real relevance.

Yeah, I was just being a little pedantic with the term "doctor". Perhaps I was a little harsh but seen so many of these type of sites before and was genuinely trying to give him sensible advice....at first ;)

Nah you're cool, I was just giving them an olive branch ;)

Back to the main topic here ... if I may ...

For the site that suggests the legal stand for photographer, may I suggest: -

a) You check with the police and council of London as to what are their interpretation of the law ... and add some reference to that in your site.

b) You put a link in your site as to where a "professional" photographer can get a license to shoot in the restricted parts of London / UK.

c) You consult with a reputed law firm, and this will cost you, to get the legal ramifications for hobbyist photographers .. make reference to the documents you receive from the law firm.

d) Make your site PDA & Smart-Phone friendly, so that any photographer can access it while out in the field. This would be most useful if we are faced with a sticky situation with the police and need to make a quick reference to something that would show the police / authority that we know the law and are within the law.

e) Keep updating the site as you invest more time with the authority - yes, you will need to get their side of the card too - so that the information you have is always as accurate as can be.

d) Add a disclaimer in BIG BOLD letters to ensure that no one follows your guidance wholeheartedly and end-up in deep trouble. That would mean a HUGE lawsuit coming your way!

Oh! One more thing ....

... if your suite turns out as you are planning it, then I have to say it is long over-due. A lot of photographers need to know where we stand as far as the law is concerned. Getting something structured and well thought out like this is very much needed. So, thank you for the effort ... I just hope you can make it very detailed and cover all important aspects that gives it the credit it needs.
