Howdy!

I'm after some inspiration on locations to shoot in Essex.. does anyone have any suggestions? I'm more into street/gritty stuff rather than country side and flowers but hey all ideas welcome.

Also...I remember reading a website which listed locations @ airports where to take photos of planes etc. My geeky side wants to go and get some shots of 747s. Any ideas?

Thanks :)

Go down to London if you're after gritty street locations

The problem is I work in london during the week and I just can't find it in me to come back on a weekend! :bonk:

Hmm maybe I'll have to get into landscape stuff, more opportunity for it ha!

Chelmsford has a pretty decent graffiti wall walkway somewhere. Saw a thread on it somewhere with a youtube link.

Colchester you have the Hythe, some pretty cool building and alleys with the gritty feel.

If you want to photograph planes, there is always Duxford air museum and North Weald?

Ah yeah I live 5 mins away from Chelmsford - I know exactly what wall you mean!

Its next to the river :) Thanks for the suggestion

where abouts do you then mate? Im from Witham!

Witham's gritty! :D

What about places like Basildon and Harlow - lots of drab, concrete 60s architecture, boarded up shops. I could imagine some great shots in black and white with a bit of grain.

On the way back from Harlow stop off near Stansted - look on Google Maps for the best vantage points near the ends of the runway. Very close to junction 8 of the M11 is an Audi dealer on the B1256 Dunmow Road. Behind it is a small industrial estate but the planes go pretty low there on take off or approach (depending on wind). Otherwise look at the Thaxted side.

Otherwise Essex has got some great coastline and for one of the poorest regions in the country look at Jaywick....very gritty!

Witham is way beyond gritty!!!

Some great ideas there Spuff!

Some nice ideas there, although I may have to find someone to go with! Jaywick crikey.. ;)

Southend, don't come much grittier than that place lol

What about hanging around outside Duke's then at kick off time on a Fri/Sat night? You could get some gritty shots of the boys in blue dealing with the county's finest youngsters after they've topped up on Stella :boxer:

Then after that head over to Bas Vegas for more Native vs Plod offerings :) hahahaha

Queen Elizabeth bridge, particularly at night...? Colchester barracks, I was there as a squaddie in the Paras, seemed bloody gritty then!

Dunc

Grays Beach is another location that is gritty - lots of industrial buildings along there as well as the old Gull Lightship.

Two Tree Island near to Leigh on Sea is pretty good for abandoned boats.

There was a program on the BBC a few weeks ago about the wild places of Essex - looked like some good places to go in there as well - worth a look on the iPlayer to see if it's still on there.

I'm shocked people are struggling to find some gritty places in Essex

If you can't find an appropriate level of grit in Chelmsford, you're not looking hard enough! Any town/city will let you get plenty of gritty street stuff if you know where to look, so have a wonder round, but it may be best to take a friend with you (and possibly a monopod for...er....low light shots obviously ;) :D) just in case it gets a little bit too gritty

Chelmsford is quite nice when you compare it to the likes of Dagenham/Romford/Illford! My mates always complain about Chelmsford but when you see places like that.. And Basildon (my birthplace, yippee!) then Chelmsford is lovely!!
