BBC Breakfast had a feature on a photographer called Graham Ward this morning, he had been working at the Corus plant at Teeside, and has an exhibition of his work at a local gallery, if you saw it , you may want to see his site -

Is he the guy who said that digital photography isn't real photography?

He seems to like his misty water shots. He's also taken photos of Teesside landmarks in almost the exact spots that I've taken them in the past few weeks. :suspect:

Looking through his galleries, some of the images are good- but nowt special?

Deleting my reply, I'm getting him mixed up with Terry O'Neil who was also on BBC this morning

Is that really his website, when he was on tele it showed portraits he had taken over the years of some very big stars. That doesn't look like the sort of stuff he shoots

That's what I thought!

I'm not sure it's the same guy:

Quote from the website:

"Very much a photographer from the digital age I have been taking photographs for about 4 years and landscapes are very much my first love."

Must be someone else... Quote from his website.

yeah think it was a different person as Terry O'Neil who said that, who was also on BBC this morning

Why should they be? He was being interviewed as someone who had been made redundant. Photography was his way of filling time and feeling better about himself.

Ah, it all makes sense now. I didn't see the interview, and was reading the OP as though he had been working as a photographer getting shots of Corus. I wondered why there were none in his gallery. :bonk:

Woops-...should learn to think before putting my words into gear. :bonk:

Hang on, why are we being so critical? I put this up , out of general interest, and was seeing if anyone saw the piece on TV, I wasn't asking people to critically assess the guy's work.

He has been fortunate enough to have his work exhibited in a local gallery too, which says something.

This is a general section, and TP is a place where photographers' are made welcome, I find it a bit sad to see such heavy criticism, especially when he is not here to defend his work.

Sorry, but I may be less inclined to make a posting of this type again.:cuckoo:

My thoughts exactly, good on him for taking photos and getting them in exhibitions and so what if others think people on here are better than him. What's the answer, tell him to give up, sell his gear and get anther hobby?

don't let it stop you posting mark.... as with all forums it takes all sorts !!! :)

funny thread though.... !! :)

:clap::clap:

That was supposed to go in before yours.

But that is OK, sentiment remains the same.

It's a lively forum, I have had my moments on here, so I best put my handbag down.

Not a point - an observation.

How about if I ask why you felt compelled to make such an observation?

Not like you are comparing what you see here to a professional photograpaher is it? Graham Ward is just an enthusiast like many of us except he happened to get on TV due to his unfortunate employment situatuion.

The guy gets my respect for getting his work displayed at a local gallery. This also goes hand in hand with people evaluating his work.

Although in this instance not what the OP was after.

Yip, but that is what happens on forums.
You get to start a thread, but you don't get to set rules as how it drifts, develops or how folk respond.:)

True, but forums work best when people at least make an effort to stay on topic until it has been exhausted. Your 'observation' hardly added any value. You may find better shots on here, but you'll also find a far greater number of worse ones.

I agree entirely, my earlier comment was misjudged and a little crass, and I now regret making it.

Now realising the context of the piece, I say good luck to the guy, it must be tough up on Teesside at the moment, steelworks closing, jobs hard to come by.

Reading the original post, I assumed this guy was a professional who was appearing on tv because they were a very good professional, so it's easy to see why people started offering critique to the work. With hindsight, the OP could've mentioned that, and the negative posts may have been avoided.

Quite honestly, I don't see what all the fuss is about. I did not know if he was a pro or not or bothered about his employment status.

Well, yes, maybe , but there again , I wasn't expecting people to maul it about. I saw the section on the Breakfast programme, and thought it worth mentioning , just becuase I thought it of interest, and to make reference to his site.

Blimey...........:help:

Anyway, where were we?:)

fairplay to the guy, hes taken some very good pictures as a hobby whilst being made redundent from his job he decided to have ago at making money out of something he loves doing! what is so wrong with that? sounds to me like certain people are a little green of envy!

as Mark has said, lets keep it on topic, no need to critique the guys work at all.
