Hi Everyone,

I apologise if I have put this thread in the wrong place but I need some advice as to where to find a good wedding photographer. The problem is as much as I'd like to I can't photograph my own wedding and I am on a strict budget. The woman who let me down today was only going to charge £300 for 3 hours,, but she signed a contract for the same day who wanted her all day. Is there any one out there who is capable of doing it but not yet established or experienced enough to put themselves out there yet who wouldn't charge me the earth? A student maybe or talented Amature?
If you think you can help, please reply.
Thank you

Well, I think that I could give it a shot, but I am not sure where this wedding would take place. I have been into photography for about a year now, so I could try. I don't promise Pro results, but I could try for a very reasonable price. I am located in Staffordshire, Stoke on Trent.

Please let me know further details.

When and where would be really handy :) got my first wedding in april so can show results if its after that date??

Hi,
Dates and a location would be useful along with what you'd need on the day as well as what you'd like from the photographer as an end result. The price isn't an issue though. :)

Regards,
Si

The wedding is near Chippenham in Wiltshire and its on the 31st of July this year. If anyone could help that would be grand!

I'm basically looking for some artistic, contemporary pictures of before the wedding, as well as some detail shots a few candid ones at the church maybe and some early on at the reception. Should only amount to about 3 or 4 hours work.

Ok, I think that this is a little bit too far for me and it is in the second week of the school holidays, so I will probably give this a miss. I am sure that plenty others will love to do this and take this opportunity.

Hi Lise,
It's a little bit off my patch but if you get stuck, give me a shout and we'll see what we can work out. ;) If you find someone closer though, it'd probably be more beneficial for them to do it.

I'd love to do this but dont feel im experienced enough to offer my services. I've only done one wedding (as a family favour)and am doing another this May (favour to a good friend) so I wouldnt like to put the pressure on myself to be the main tog, but if you want a 2nd photographer for free then let me know. Good luck !!

Im more than happy to assist anyone & help out with the candids & arranging
the group shots etc.

Hiya,

I am in the process of updating my wedding portfolio and would be interested in this. My (still work in progress) website is http://shelldemar.com if you want to have a lookie, I also just created a facebook page where I post my latest work.

Anyway, if this is of interest to you then please drop me a line and we can have a chat.

Cheers,
Shell

Should only amount to about 3 or 4 hours work.

. . . shooting - plus at least an hour pre-prep and maybe 4 - 6 hours processing + print ordering - checking - delivering - anyone who takes this on for the price suggested doesn't really value their photography!

Credit to the OP for asking on this site for a cheap wedding tog. But feel this is the thing these days. So many willing people to do it at such a cheap price. Great for those starting out, but 1 or 2 here who have offered surprised me. After saying that, perhaps if the wedding was in the East, I would have had a punch at it myself:eek: ;)

Anyway, not trying to start any arguements, but just feel this hi-lights the way some of the wedding market is these days.

Of course there is a market for budget wedding togs, I was one myself:)

Apologies to all, I am not trolling(?) and I hope that the OP finds someone within their budget.

Hi
Congrats on your wedding :)

I'm not clear on what your budget is for the pictures.

Do you want your £300 to be for someone to show up for 3-4 hours or are you wanting this to include final images as print/cd?

Hi

great question, is it for time, or for the whole lot

i think one of the problems here is the guy is a photographer, so if said "studant or talented amateur" was,nt up to scratch you might have a conflict. what if he,s not happy with what you,ve done?

As a photographer he'll know that you get what you pay for ;)

It's not so bad if it's £300 to turn up and shoot and then + per picture + per album, but £300 all-in.... hmmm

There a saying about what you get if you pay peanuts

Not wanting to step on any one's toes....................:shake:

I know a few names of highly respectable MPA photographers who would shoot a wedding (including album) for under £500 in this area.
A little research for photographers in Chippenham will point you in the right direction.
Before anyone shouts ( you get what you pay for ) one I know of, shoots with an 18k digital Hasselblad, is a master photographer and his work is second to none.:)
I'm getting £650 for my wedding this Friday,:'( yea we would all like the two or three K weddings but things are changing in this field and not for the better, not all brides have a pot of gold.
I’m sure most of you would rather go out and earn so that you can pay the bills rather than have your kit bag laying on the studio floor while you twiddle your thumbs.
Just my little bit of input :D

Let's keep this on track ladies and gents, the OP was perfectly clear on their requirements so please do not start chipping in with "worth of photography" type comments as they have been done to death. If you really feel the need to debate this further please start a dedicated thread.

Thank you.

£300 is too low for me, might be able to do that for £500. Check out my site for examples of work etc.

Pete

Perhaps whoever does this could just supply the raw files. If the OP is a photographer, they would probably be happy to process them for themselves and organise the prints etc.

Could be a solution to the limited budget.

Graham

Good luck to the OP. If the budget is limited then it is limited! I'm sure she does not need reminding of that from all of the doom & gloom merchants on here. I hope she sorts out what she wants & has a fab day

I understand your point, it is important to value your work but every Photographer has to start somewhere and I am trying to find someone who needs to gain a little more experience and some more pictures for their portfolio/website who has some talent. I am asking for a CD of images, which have perhaps been tidied up slightly if needed but this is not essential as I can easily do this myself.
The wedding photography market is saturated with photographers claiming to be the bees knees and charging a small fortune. Where else can you earn the best part of a grand for maybe a couple of days work. Most people have to work the best part of a month to earn that sort of money.

Hi
Congrats on your wedding :)

I'm not clear on what your budget is for the pictures.

Hi, I would just want the tog to show up for 3/4 hours, and the pics on a CD. They don't really need to be edited as I can do that here, but it would be nice if they need some tidying.

Good luck in your search for a 'tog. I don't shoot weddings £300 + expenses is around my 1/2 day rate for unfinished images, however weddings are a different beast to a controlled shoot hence why I don't shoot them, and I don't work saturdays, that's family time ;)

It would be worth noting the following too.

Findings from Shutterfly’s Wedding Trend Survey revealed:

– Should’ve spent less on the dress; more on the memories. Of survey respondents married within 12 months prior to the survey, 28 percent felt they didn’t spend enough money on the honeymoon; 22 percent felt the same about the photographer. 19 percent of the same sample reported spending too much on the bridal gown and food.

Where else can you earn the best part of a grand for maybe a couple of days work. Most people have to work the best part of a month to earn that sort of money.

I guess this comment is tongue in cheek, just like expecting a wedding photographer for 300 quid.

No wonder your original photographer found a better job!

Very impressive pictures on your site there mate, love the Holly Boudoir Shoot, as well as you wedding pics. class.

I'll rephrase - I am available and definitely not free!

Dream on baby. It may be only three or four hours at the ceremony itself, but what about all the pre ceremony preparation time, and all the post ceremony editing, composing and final prepareation. If you are only prepared to pay for 3 or 4 hours then drop Uncle Fred a tenner to bring his compact along.

you are somewhat out of touch with the reality of wedding photography old bean.

I'm not a professional photographer but I think that expecting one to do a wedding for three hundred quid is a bit of a cheek! My local (very bad) photographer charges that for four B&W portrait pictures.

You could also argue that asking for thousands is a bit of a cheek too.
However, the op has stated the budget, stated they are not expecting a miracle.

For a photography student, or someone just starting out in business, £300 for a days work is pretty good in my opinion.

If you are a photographer that charges thousands for a days work then obviously this job is not suited, however, if there are students or startups etc then this could be good experience.

Not everyone has a pot of gold to get married. (infact everything about weddings is a crazy price)
