Hello chaps and chapesses,

Was discussing film developing options with a few people on a Facebook page earlier and the usual options such as UKFL came up etc. One guy recommended a place called Photoghost in Aberdeen and said they offered a subscription based service for high quantity shooters.

Had a look at their website and it seems like something I need to try! For £25 a month (paypal recurring payments which can be cancelled at any time) they offer to develop and scan up to ten rolls per month, and then send you them back on cd in the post. It costs £2 a time to send the film back and five films can be sent at once for that price.

Only C41 is covered in this which I guess will be disappointing for E6 and B&W shooters (although everyone should do their own B&W anyway!) But it covers 35mm, 120 and 220 etc. Not totally sure of scan sizes for 120 but 35mm is said to be 1800x2700 which isn't massive but will do for online stuff I reckon. Turn around time is said to be 3-5 days.

Doing the maths, shooting ten rolls of film and sending them off 2-3 a week would work out about 47 nugggets a month, or £4.70 per roll, which seems very good for dev, scan and post.

Has anyone had any experience with them? Got four rolls in the fridge at the moment so I might try them out this week.

It sounds interesting, if a bit complicated. The lack of colour/density/tonal corrections on a frame-by-frame basis, however, is a deal breaker for me.

Does anyone have any practical experience of this now a year later? I'm thinking of signing up!

I used them for a couple of months before I decided that I didn't shoot enough film and cancelled my subscription.

They're very good in my opinion. Their turn around time is 1-2 days after they get your film which is superb. The film scans are a little on the small side (1500x1500 px for 6x6) but for web use that's usually big enough.

I was very impressed with their attitude as well; there was one time that I had a problem with my scans after I received them into my Dropbox, and I emailed them about it. I got a reply within a few minutes and the issue was sorted pretty much straight away. Even more impressive that this was quite late in the evening!

£25 for up to ten films a month (if the price is still the same, I haven't looked) is insane value if you shoot a lot, but I only used 2-4 usually so it wasn't that great for me.

I think @brucegill used them too and might be able to offer an opinion.

Actually the scans were 1800x1800 I think, not 1500x1500.

Also after I signed up they started storing your negs after they scan them so that you don't have to pay return postage each time

Sounds like a no brainer, I've got a ton of 120 film to shoot so will give this a go!

Thanks for the info

Used for awhile - not happy with the results. Scans are OK, but not amazing. Negatives were often scratched - Black and White scans showed visible scratching.

One time they developed and scanned 11-12 rolls of mine and then forgot to send me the files, then went on holiday, then had to find where the files were, so it was a ~2 month process.

The price is great, and they are good people, but I switched somewhere else.

Thanks for the info, I've sent a few initial films to them for a test so will see how I go

Where did you move to?

Initial impressions not good, sent films over a week ago had to chase and told machine needs repair. There was no impetus to tell me that I had to email them so don't think I'll be sending anymore their way and haven't even seen the results yet...
