I'm having a look at the Photoflex Tritonflash as an alternative to some Eli Ranger Quadras.

Does anyone have any experience of Photoflex kit, in terms of robustness, durability etc?

Hey mate,

No experience I'm afraid. Just a completely unbiased question, how comes you're looking at the tritonflash? Because it's cheaper?

I may be selling my Bron Mobil soon ;)

Moving to continuous

Dan

When you work out the price including an extra head (ie 3 heads + 2 packs) the costs are almost identical.

However the Triton offers 1:1 from one pack as opposed to the Quadra's 1:2, it's 1/4 of the weight, has a battery life of 750 full power shots v 170 ish and more importantly it can take direct AC power when working inside. It's also got a 7 fps response for fast work.

On the downside it's 300 v 400Ws, the radio triggering system is based on RF602 derivatives v the Eli RX system and the build is completely unknown since there don't seem to be any copies in the UK.
Edit: The modelling light only has a 10 sec timer!

It might even be cheaper to do a direct import from B&H inc duties and taxes.

Decisions, decisions! :D

Hmmm the spec does look nice, and to be fair, as far as I am aware Photoflex have a very good reputation.

7 flashes per second seems impressive but I wonder what power that's at? Any idea of flash duration?

The other things to consider are of course back up in the UK should you need to hire/buy/replace compatible parts and/or modifiers. The modifiers look expensive too.

Be different, buy it :D lol

Have you checked to see who makes it? All Photoflex do is rebrand the usual Chinese Ebay stuff....

The 7 fps is at 1/8th, duration 1/3200-1/8600.

I've already sourced a supplier with a decent reputation, and you can also get an adaptor for Bowens fit mods! :)

Yup, your right it is Chinese made, however Photoflex appear to have completely respec'ed the original build to their own standards.

There are 2 units out on trial in the UK at the moment, and I'm in the process of arranging a hands on look see! :)

Seems to be a Phottix product modded to Photoflex's specs. Phottix tend to be one of the better Chinese manufacturers, so.....

Buying from Phottix, the 400ws light and battery pack come in at just over £400. Bloody cheap!!!

Yup, I have thanks Paul.

Current conclusion is that the Photoflex versions are underpowered and over priced given the others on the market!

Cheers for the link though! :)
