I am wanting to branch out with my photography and purchase myself a white background. I have been advised to disregard muslin and vinyl apparently isnt too easy to transport however I have come across this collapsible background from photodeals and wondered if anyone has any personal experience of it...

http://www.photodeals.co.uk/product.php?productid=15&cat=0&page=0&featured=Y

Is it recommended by anyone? Alternatively any suggestions for any other collapsible (ideally with train) backgrounds would be very much appreciated!

Thanks

I have one, picked it up used on here and yet to use it in anger.

It is quite a pick bag, and not too light, but opens up nice and big, (watch the ceiling).

It's a bit of fun folding it back up, but after a few goes I am told it gets easier.

The train will crumple, but facbirs does, the background itself was wrinkle free.

I use a shower curtain although it hasn't got a train ............ maybe stick two together?
a hell of a lot cheaper than your link

Would anyone have any images they have taken with this that they would be willing to share! I have heard just as many good things as I have heard bad, a real example would be good!

I have one without the train and cant stand it - much prefer my vinyl roll which is lovely to work with and makes white BG portraits so much easier !

I have a couple here :) if you are thinking of buying one of these i would recommend also getting a stand to hook it onto, as it's not great just Leaning against a wall, unless of course your just going to use it at home, in which case you could always fix a small hook on the wall, which is what i did.

The originals actually look a lot better, but for some reason the colour has washed out a bit because of the resizing, i think i need to saturate a bit more for the web :)

The photosel b/ground is narrower, which could be limiting....

It's a colour space thing.

Your pics are in Adobe 1998. This only renders correctly in some browsers. For a more consistent look most people still prefer to convert to sRGB for web.

Edit...convert to profile... in PS. It's an option on save for web but I always convert manually beforehand.

Seen a few on eBay but I'm looking for one aswell. But I want a train too :( can't find one :(

How are you seeing this in my pics ? as i can't find that info, i'm guessing it's staring me straight in the face :bonk: and can you be more specific of how to change it please :)

Sorry not to reply sooner.

Well, for one thing - that's what this problem usually is ;) Especially when it looks OK to me - I use Safari which by default honours colour profiles. AFAIK most other browsers still don't so it's best practise to make anything on the web sRGB.

I bet there's loads of s/w to let you do this - since I pretty much always have it running, I use Photoshop. Just open file info and go to advanced.

If you use save for web then there's an option to convert it but I never trust that ;)

In the edit menu select "convert profile" near the bottom. This is also a fast way to check the current profile - it will be under source space.

If in doubt, the setting shown are generally good options though advice tends to vary.
