I am a member of a few aquarium and tropical fish forums (forae?) and have found Photobucket a useful way of posting pictures. As a new member of this forum I find that most (if not all) people use Flickr. Is there a major, fundamental reason that folk here use Flickr over Photobucket or other picture hosting websites? At first glance Photobucket seems easier to use when it comes to linking pictures to other websites and while I have used Flickr for this, it's easy, but not quite as straightforward.

For me Flickr seems to keep the sharpness of images better when posting them on here compared to Photobucket. No doubt some geek will be able to explain why:D. Both applications are as easy as each other for posting images on here, just grab the right code and C+P it into the thread. Nae sweat!!

Most people use Flickr because you can gain access to exif information to the image, which is helpful in trying to help other members that are learning with their cameras. Secondly photobucket compresses image files you post to their site there for reducing the quailty of your image on the internet, Flickr does not do this to your images. Most people myself included find Flickr user friendly once you know where things are I am not sure how much space photobucket offer these days but the 1tb off free space on Flickr is a great feature to have.

Heavens, I'm obviously not the only night owl here.

Thanks for your replies; I now see the point and shall move my activities to Flickr. I see it's not owned by Google because that would be a deal-breaker, I hate everything to do with that creepy company -- but that's fodder for another thread though.
