Photobucket changing their T&C's?

I had one of those signs come up and on checking Photobucket it seems I would need to pay £30 a month to continue with "3rd party hosting"

I don't think so!

I now no longer have any Photobucket accounts, I have downloaded any images I wanted to keep and have deleted the accounts

Free for now :)

I think more people would be willing to pay to use Flickr than pb if the time came. Pb was IME almost unusably slow and so many ad pop ups, it seemed like you had a computer virus. And to have audacity to think all that is worth £30 per month! I'd love to know how many people have actually agreed to pay it.

I agree about flickr... they are moving to new ownership, so we may have to face that choice soon. Last time they had the Pro option that gave extra space etc, then decided to give that space to all users, IIRC.

Also agree about PB being unusably slow and the adverts being shocking... I mean literally shocking, disgusting click bait that made any sensible person worry about leading to phishing and spam sites. But in their favour, I believe that the paid options remove the ads so maybe the experience becomes a bit better. I also suspect that even if they can only convert 1% of their current users into ransom payers, they might be ahead. The folk I'm sorry for are those who've been paying already all this time on the lower tiers, and who are also facing the ransom and unable to get their images 3rd party hosted. It's arguable that those of us using free services have got what we paid for (and a bit more), but those who paid have not.

Just noticed my own personal web site (totally non profit and made for my own pleasure) had broken links all over the place where photos used to be . . . and after a bit of investigating . . . wow . . . just wow. And all my photos stored on Photobucket going back to 2005 are all gone . . . all 1200 of them (edit: I've just found them, but had to do it via a different link and even then the full size images won't load up)

Gutted isn't just a good enough word to describe how I'm feeling. Especially now that my memory to Chad (my former black cat) page is full of broken links: http://mybits.webs.com/inmemoryofchad.htm

Only ever had a dozen images on it in 3 years and they are now chasing me for a subscription. Signed out and they are gone.

They should still be there, but no longer linkable.
