Yes
I'm thinking of setting up a photoblog.

Now I've been having a look around at the (very impressive) photoblogs of DarkSaber, petemc, fingerz, milou and TonyB.

I've had a look at Pixelpost with DarkSaber uses and blogspot which I think Tony uses.

How about the rest of you? I don't think I'll be typing much, to go with the photos, but the ability to add text is nice.
I'd also like it to be very quickly usable and user friendly, including for batch uploads.
And quite customisable. (Id ideally like to be able to integrate it into my site at some point in the future if possible).

Any thoughts?
What does everyone else use?
I'm currently using flickr which isnt too bad, but I'm getting quite disillusioned at its oversharpening algorithms when resizing shots.

Thanks for that mate.

I know one of you handcoded your sites, just wasn't sure which one of you it was. Wish I had the talent to do it, but sadly I don't...lol

indeed, this is something I've been looking at doing, and like you not having the know how has rather hindered progress some what... there are things like pixelpost that can be used or - if you manage to get your head round it - integrate the text-based blogs like Wordpress or Movable Type with a picture displaying photoblog or plugin to realise your aim...

Well I have installed Pixelpost, and it does look nice and simple. But I can't help feeling it looks a bit too simple...lol

Currently downloaded Wordpress and will have a play with that later tonight.

My hosts have a selection ready to be installed via Fantastico

b2evolution
Nucleus
pMachine Free
WordPress

Not used any of them so I can't comment except to say that your hosting company probably offers a selection as well, give them a try.

Wordpress is the one I use. If you have a host with PHP and MySQL you can install it in 5 minutes. Its so easy, it really is. You can get new themes and install them easily too, and plugins. However, there aren't that many photoblogging themes around for it so I took a normal blog theme and rebuilt it for use as a photoblogging theme.

Fantastic mate. Many thanks for that (Caught your PM earlier but it was a fly by catchup so didnt have time to reply).

Seriously that's spiffingly marvellous of you  I'll go have a look at them later on this evening :)

no probs - I wanted to have a look at them anyway :)

Still Can't get b2evolution working :( Nucleus and Wordpress are looking pretty good anyway.

All the above are good suggestions. When it comes to your requirement for something that will integrate into the rest of your site later on, that's where it could all come unstuck and that's why I ended up biting the bullet and learning PHP and SQL (well, enough to get by on) a few years back.

The first incarnation of my website was a load of cobbled-together scripts that I'd found on the net. I was able to tweak them a bit and get mostly what I wanted but it just never looked quite right.

However, I'm quite fussy about these things so if you're prepared to let some things slide, you'll probably be just fine. I'm not writing this to try to get you to learn coding. I'm just telling you what my thought processes were at the time, in case it's any use at all (probably not). Also, bear in mind that I already knew HTML and CSS so I had some foundation knowledge to build on.

I do know my way around PHP/HTML/CSS, and SQL to a fashion.

Enough to pick things out and have a diddle with things.
The idea of coding a photoblog from scratch though makes me feel a bit queazy..there's no way I'd know where to start etc. I only really know how to read it, if that makes sense.

Was having a little look through the files and code for both Nucleus and Wordpress and its slightly more advanced than the phpbb forums I have experience with :(

Marcel - here is the tutorial that started me on my path with PHP and MySQL. I'm linking straight to part two (It has four parts, I think) since part one is all about installing PHP and MySQL onto a server and I'm guessing you don't need to do that. Most webhosts will have it all pre-installed.

Take a couple of hours out of your time, go through as much of it as you can and make a decision as to whether to go further. Given what you already know, I think it might be worth you having a bash, actually.
