Photo52 2012 : Join In !!! : Week 52 Busy

YAY for all of us still here :clap:

I'm feeling all emotional ....& it's not even the final week yet

I just tried to update the spreadsheet but it keeps crashing on me :( I had updated it before but it didn't save, any ideas?
Nope... no idea

Mine just updated alright... just put up my Mineral shot, which I kept forgetting about

I know we still have a few weeks to go on this years 52 and not wanting to wish the year away but have have just been thinking.

Has anyone had any thoughts as to next year? To 52 or not?

I am undecided, some weeks its been a real struggle but others inspiration struck.

Anyone decided for definite either way? Iain

Well, if I did that it would be my 3rd yr in a row, it doesn't seem any harder than it was the first time I did one, checking for a theme every saturday has become a bit of a ritual! I have been thinking of, and virtually committed myself to a 365 from when our baby is born in december, but I have been thinking of doing the 52 again, it's great fun and a great sense of community spirit among the threads. One way or the other I will be doing 1 of them

I think a 365 is beyond me Michael, I don't think I would have the time.
A 365 for your baby when born however is a totally different prospect. I can't think of a better subject for a 365, it will be fantastic to look back on :)

I'M IN

Strange how making one photograph a week can, at times, be quite hard. Some weeks the theme appears quite easy but then I moved over the obvious (nowt wrong with photographing the obvious, though!) and at times it's been a bit :bonk:

Looking back I'm made some good, bad and ugly photographs.

Learning: not really learned much on the technical side, but I've learned a lot on the 'photographer's eye' side of photography.

Met some decent folk. 'Met' some decent folk. Great sense of community

BTW: 365. No way. I managed to get to 100 with my Costa 365 and had to give up to save my sanity!

So, who's joining in on the TP end of project meet!!

Its kind of odd in away as I cant imagine how the pictures are going to be. It will be tough indeed, hope I can do the project justice!

My plan was to do two 52's as the count down to leaving my job then do a 365 as a lady of leisure! But this year has been bloody difficult with lots of illness and the Olympics!

Come on let's face it if I can post a photo whilst ill with pneumonia before dragging myself to A&E I can bloody well get through anything!

It's looking like 2013 could be even harder though as my husband may be posted overseas! But first he'd have to do a four month course away:razz: HOWEVER, it's a possible posting to CYPRUS :woot:  so lots of time apart, lots of stress but I'd be leaving my job to go on holiday for over two years! Can you imagine next years end of year meet :D

So I guess I'm in:nuts: :gag:

I am the same Andy in that I don't think I have learned much on the technical side but that could be because I haven't pushed myself enough
I do enjoy the creative side to it and trying to come up with something each week. There have been some 'hits' some 'misses' and some 'maybes' from me, I know that for sure. I would certainly miss the 'community' feel to the 52 if I wasn't to do it next year.

Its kind of odd in away as I cant imagine how the pictures are going to be. It will be tough indeed, hope I can do the project justice!

I am sure it will be tough at times but doubly sure you will do the 365 justice. There was an article on line recently where a Dad took a photograph of his son every day for years, how cool is that to be able to look back on?

:woot: I will take that as a formal invite to Cyprus then Marsha for the end of 52 meet, there's an incentive in itself to join in next year

I think I'll be doing the challenge next year too. Some weeks I still struggle for ideas but it is much easier now than it was the first few weeks, probably because the way I approach the themes has changed.

I've learned quite a few things this year. To believe in myself, for one (hugely important). On the technical side, I've started using off-camera flash and I shoot in manual mode a lot more (as opposed to aperture priority). I think the way I compose my images has improved. From an editing point of view, I've learned a bit more about Photoshop. And even though I've spent a fair amount of time on the challenge photos, I don't think my other photography has suffered as a result.

It sounds like you have really progressed in your photography Nathalie
Can I ask about how your approach to the themes have changed?
I have kept the same approach this year to 2010 when I last did the 52.
I try to think in a wider sense with the weekly theme, that is I try and put whatever the theme is into a phrase or saying. I find that helps my thinking when trying to come up with something.

Week 44....sat here waiting patiently......

:D

Have you been sat there all night?

Just up for work, looks like the sun may show itself today so I might take my camera to work!

I've learnt loads this year! I think that shows how little I knew at the beginning of 2012!
Although I'm wondering if others have little voices in their head when they're shooting for a theme? I was out with my camera on Thursday trying to get spread and I could hear phrases like 'a little gardening needed' not enough DOF, needs a little off that edge!' It has certainly made me think!

This was my first year, so it took a while to figure out what worked best for me. Discipline and hard work would normally be what keeps me on track, but for this a more casual approach works better. I check what the new theme is every Saturday morning and if I don't feel immediately inspired, I let it go. What usually happens is, it sits at the back of my mind and a few hours or days later, an idea will pop into my head. I'll see something, hear something or read something that triggers it. Often the idea will be a phrase or saying, but sometimes it's an actual image. Some weeks this doesn't happen, but I don't sweat it. I've fallen behind before and I know I'll catch up.

I care less about what other people think now than I did in the beginning. I have set a few basic requirements for myself and as long as those are met, I'm usually reasonably happy with the end result and what other people think matters less. It's subjective anyway, people have different priorities and tastes. Some favour photos with a clear connection to the theme, some look at technical skill and execution, others care more about how interesting a photo is. Some look mainly at the composition while others want the colours and PP to be a certain way. What people like, as far as subject matter goes, also differs... Nature, animals, landscapes, people, carefully arranged studio shots of inanimate objects... You can't please everyone. All I can do is make sure I'm happy.

First I Spread something then I have to pull it Together :D

Together is a smiley word for me. As usual I'll be trying to think 'outside the box'.

Strange, but this has become a habit, ritual if you like, and overall I do. Can't see me stopping, even though, at times, it's been a bit :help::help::bonk::baby:

Special thanks to Sarah for being a cracking theme pickerer

Cheers.

I'd like to, but can you let me know what's happening: I can't make head nor tail of the thread, as there seem to be so many suggestions and no conclusion?!

Re next year's 52, I can't decide whether to do this or my own 52, but deffinately want to do something. I can't imagine Saturdays without!

The thing putting me off is the commenting. I desperately want to comment, but it's becoming a chore I just can't find time for :(. I think we need a new format to make commenting easier.

From what I can tell there's an end of year meet in Great Malvern 31 Jan - 03 Feb. And Nick (Blankcanvas) has popped up about an NMA meet 23/24 November.

I have this issue too! I think next year I'll not subscribe to everyone's threads, just pick a select few and drop in and out of others every now and then!

Venues and dates are as Marsha says.

Guess we all have busy nights but, and don't take this the wrong way, surely with so few left putting an hour aside each week isn't so hard

Totally understand when we started it was mental trying to comment on 100 TP52 threads.

I think next year ill follow the TP52ers and might be a little selective with others, popping by the others now and again. Concern there for me, though, is that many people start a 52 to learn and to learn from others feedback.

Cheers all.

You'd think it would be that easy, but it seems to take me ages to comment on one thread! I think it's harder now as the critique is more detailed.

It's also nice getting comments on your 52 no matter how brief. I will make the effort to visit everyone, it just won't be every week!

Plus I have made some new friends this year through this and that's got to be good:)

Thanks. I think it'd be an idea to have a new thread for each, because it's almost impossible to find the detail from the existing one. I can't come to the MNA one, but would like to come to the other one :)

Well, it's more than the odd busy night at the moment, because my business partner and I are trying to re-construct our company, so I'm not at home a lot, and when I am, well that's family time :)

But I'm amazed you can do it in an hour, even with so few left in? Maybe if you stay completely up to date, but if you get a little behind, as I have done, catching up with useful comments takes a lot longer than that I'm finding. I think Marsha's right; it is a lot harder now because of the very high standard.

That said, I don't make it easy for myself by refusing to look at anyone else's thread until I've posted my own, which automatically puts me behind. I do that because I don't want to be blinkered in my thinking by seeing a fantastic idea from someone else that I then can't get out of my head, but maybe it's time to drop that idea!!

Anyway this week I've got up to date with my own shots early on, so WILL do the same with comments, promise :)

Woohoo , finally up to date with commenting again :D

Work is still being a pain , 8.30-12.30 on saturdays, yeah right...4.30 I got away today :bang:
I have however managed to buy 2 lots of props today for this weeks theme....though I have already eaten almost half of one of them

I'm finding commenting a little easier in terms of numbers but harder in terms of crit as everyone is coming up with great images :clap: Commenting on week nights is a no go cos I'm just popped!

I'm sure I have learnt loads this year though it may not be apparent  Getting to grips with the D7000 & the macro lens , learning to use my filters more , sort of sussed exp comp , slowly getting the hang of use natural light better , taking more time to set the shot up , learning to look at different angles rather than just taking the 1st shot I see & having fun finding out more stuff in pse .

I'm fairly sure I'm IN for next year , can't quite imagine saturdays without a theme to groan about & tie my brain cells in knots over :D That said , I still remember the pain of trying to comment on over 100 threads at the start of this year's 52 but guess I'll put myself through it again as I feel incredibly guilty when I miss someone . Feel guilty now as I've not popped in to the other challenge threads that are running but time is a precious commodity these days & I can't do everything , much as I'd like to .

ttfn peeps

As for the meet.....I'M IN  Got my holiday cleared for the Malverns & hoping the weather holds for the NMA meet

I think I will do 2013 as well, I've absolutely loved doing this - and learned loads. I might do next year with a theme - still trying to figure out what. I toyed with pipe-cleaners or origami but I haven't decided yet...

Ooh I like that idea; themes done to a theme!

Thinking cap on…………………...

That would be a challenge! There was a guy started this year that had a bike in every shot!

Maybe I could base mine on chocolate :naughty:
