My sister is looking to get one of those little compact photo printers for her and her kids to use to run off 6x4's or whatever they print to send to people. Ive no idea at all about them and review sites seem to be mixed. Just wondering if anyone has come across them, has them and used them to say what a good model is.

Did you find anything in the end?

I've got a Pixma ip7250 which is very good and has a separate tray for the sizes you mention. It prints really good photos and has been a real workhorse.

I have had a Canon Selphy now for well over 10 years and it still works as new.
The papers & print ribbons have not changed and the quality of the print is excellent and smudge proof due to the final protective cover.
You can get them with or without a battery for true portability.
Some have the option of being both electric and or battery.
And you can buy tripple packs of paper-ribbon (3x36) to save money.
Just to be clear the paper and ribbon are one for one, meaning unless something goes wrong one sheet of paper per set of ribbon colours & the final over cover.
So a full ribbon needs to match the amount of paper loaded, you can buy packs smaller than 36's.

Selphys are compact and good at printing small sizes.

Quality is good but not great.

Any of the PIXMA printers are very good printers for photos.

I've a Canon iP printer - will print upto A4 and easily does the smaller format paper
