i got given a epson r800 and was told it has a blocked nozzle

well it didnt have it was just dirty and the the waste pads was all goopted up with ink

so spent 2 hours cleaning it and it was good

ok so i got some new ink and after some fiddling got it printing
then i started to print some photos this is where the problem starts
first 4 come out nice

then this started to happen

now i think it could be ink or paper

so any advice is welcome thank you

Have you run the nozzle check? How did that look?
 
What ink are you using? What paper? What profile?

the paper is studioworks premium glossy and i have tried profile premium glossy/B] and semigloss

and no mater what setting i use some thing as last pic
 
Ink is likely to be your primary problem!

Do you turn off ICM and use the paper profile?
 
What program are you printing from?

ICM is the printers colour management. If using Photoshop, and you have that to manage colour too then you have two applications trying to manage colour for one image.....
 
OK Hmmmm.... Not sure as I don't use that? You need to make sure the paper is set correctly as the ink output is crucial for different papers.
 
It rather looks like the ink is seperating or granulating, which could be a paper/ink mismatch, have you tried with genuine Epson ink and paper.

Yes I think that - Buy some Epson ink (yes I know it's expensive) and paper and flush out the ink that's in the tubes. I actually use a CIS system from Fotospeed - you could maybe look at one of them? Ink from ebay doesn't fill me with any confidence of consistency in the product.
 
i just cant afford epson inks they are to much i need 8 carts for this thing
i dont get it It printed the first 4 fine hmm ill try a diff photo paper then if still the same
ill try new ink

Those printouts look like they would from 3 scenarios, both are pretty basic ones, so sorry if this is not the case.

1. looks like its printing pigment ink onto paper designed to accept dye only ink.

2. printed on the wrong side of the paper.

3. The printer + combination of paper ink and profile is over inking the paper.

You need to start from a know good reference ie

Epson ink

Epson paper

Epson profile for printer, ink, paper combination and correct driver settings.
 
That looks like what I got when I tried Kodak paper in my Canon s820 - didn't like it at all! (Using genuine Canon inks).

Genuine inks aren't cheap BUT they do tend to give the best results. Also, if you end up with useless prints, the paper, ink and time costs soon negate any saving you may have made on the inks anyway.
 
i understand what your saying about the cheaper inks but when epson inks are £15 each
then for people like me there out of our reach

i just cant afford the outlay for one cart but i do understand your point
 
Carts for you R800 are £12.49 inc P&P from 7dayshop.com

OK, that's still not cheap but then again, photography ain't a cheap hobby!

£15...? Bargain - the ones we used were £80 each (large size) and we needed 8 of them for our printer (Epson Stylus Pro 4880)...:lol:

If you plan to do a lot of printing - for money, then buy the genuine inks and paper - it works out cheaper in the long run.
If you're doing short print runs, then use a print-house - that way they get to worry about all this and you don't pay until you're happy with the prints.

Had exactly this problem on my R800 with Kodak paper, changed paper, problem solved, looked exactly as yours does.
And that was with genuine ink lol.

Looks like the paper/ink mismatch. Buy some paper that can be printed on pigment and dye ink.

Don't buy cheap poor paper. Buy I;lford smooth pearl (still cheap but a quality paper).

try that
 
Kodak paper is not my favourite paper - is always wet when it comes out. Maybe it doesn't like the pigment inks?

What happens if you print a picture on ordinary paper not photo paper?

i wouldn't buy it unless they provide a free profile - but that's just me. For many, accurate colour isn't important.

i never thought to try it so i just did and this is what i got
its printed on HP all in one printing paper 80g/m
