Are they all as bad as the Kidde ones? A few months old. Hoovered it out again yesterday. Useless junk is peeping that it can see something. There is nothing there!

The ancient one packed in (Kidde). Replaced with fire angel That wouldn't even turn on. That went back. Then put this other Kidde 10 year photo optical one up in about June. It went off before and I hoovered it. It's only gone off once for an actual reason, toast or frying pan, and it's now woken me up yet again in the middle of the night for no reason. So I've switched it off which is exactly what you don't want!

Yet again, back to no smoke alarm.

I now need yet another smoke alarm, ideally with lith battery or at least one with a changeable 9v then I can buy a decent lith battery to go in it.

Any idea which ones the fire service supply as I'd assume they'd be basic and bullet proof?

We had 2 FireAngel smoke detectors fitted by our local Fire Service. got a replacement from B & Q. Ours is a sealed unit so when the battery goes you just get another one. Batteries do seem to last as long as they say they will

I had some fitted by the fire service in my last house. They were the kidde ones with the 10 year battery but you could replace the battery. Worked fine for ages.

It just seems odd to have both major brands be faulty.

Not sure what brand ours are and I can't see from here! I change the batteries (PP3) every new year's day and use the cheap ones from Lidl - they probably last longer than 12 months but if they get changed before they die, the bloody things don't go off at 03:30! Should probably check them to see what their best before dates are (detectors not batteries.)

Unless Argos have ancient stock the BBD shouldn't be before 2023 or 2024!

Test button isn't doing anything after I have switched it back on either now. I wonder whether the warehousing of these items is actually killing them prematurely?
