I found them much friendlier than B&H in there and bought my 350d from there. They usually have a load of used stuff as well.
 
I am going next Thursday - it will be my 5th visit - and I just can't wait. Top of the Rock at dusk was my favourite.

Statten Island Ferry gave us great views. This trip we plan on people watching in Times Square, visiting Brooklyn Heights and Ellis Island.

Now, do I take my 50mm, or my 18-55mm?

The kits lens will give me a bit of flexibility with regards to zoom which the 50mm wont have, and the DOF will more than suffice with the kit lens.

Or do I just take them both? :D

Just across from John Lennons house is his memorial in Central park, There are usually plenty of "characters" around as long as you are discreet they make great human interest subjects.... I think most of the memorable things are related to the people and not the places :) try the subway, chinatown (avoid the handbag sellers :lol:) and Harlem, The red bus tours are the best and you should get on early to get a good seat near the front of the bus. They stop all the time and you can get good pictures from such a high vantage point while getting great "orientation" around the city. Have a great time and let us all see the results.

Guys... I really didnt want to have to say this.

I lost half my photos. I am deadly serious. Havent been in the mood to look at the others, as you can understand, I am rather upset.

2 4GB cards, and 400 photos gone :(

Where were they lost ? is it in a lost bag that may turn up or are they simply AWOL ?

have you tried contacting the hotel in case they were found in your room after you checked out ?

Really bad news, I feel for you.
 
Ive a feeling I scooped the memory card pouch up with rubbish in my suitcase, and was promptly binned :( Contacted hotel, they havent seen it.

Live and learn eh? Yes I am a complete fool, yes I should have been more careful, but I still have the memories, and I will certainly be going back for another go :)

at least you didn't lose them all though! you still have half which is better than nothing!
