Does anyone else have the problem with PM that some players names have letters missing from them when captioning using the code replacements?
E's and A's keep being replaced with ? (question mark)!
 
I don't use code replacements so obviously I could be completely wrong (sorry), but...

Have you saved the file out as a plain UTF-8 encoded text file, and not an RTF file? This appears to be something that often trips people up.

Failing that, pop over to CameraBits' support forum and ask there. They have some friendly, knowledgeable and extremely helpful people there, but more importantly the developers actively monitor the forums (especially Kirk who answers peoples queries during the day and night, at weekends and even when he's away on holiday!).

The encoded file is ANSI what ever that means.But I have looked at the letters that are being converted into a ?(question mark) and it is letters that have a little tick hyphen over the top.
 
Which means you're using characters with accents and PM can't cope with a lot of those.

Convert the foreign names to English.
 
Yes it is caused by those hyphen things over the letters.I jus change them now for normall letters,
 
Had this recently at the Ireland Germany match. I took a .txt from a colleague and it would show the ü etc on the German names.

Internet suggests it may be an IPTC encoding issue. Have now set mine to Mac Cyrillic and ticked 'write IPTC as unicode' in the preferences. Seems to have solved the issue.

Strangely even normal letters can mess up. I had a caption which had 'GAA' in it, not uncommon for over here, and the picture desk said the last 'A' was coming in as a '?'. They are on FotoStation, I am on PM. The change above solved this...... for now!
 
I'd forgotten about this and Seba's post made me dig a bit further.

I glossed over Tony's post without taking on board what he was saying.

Just to reiterate, any .txt file needs to be saved in UTF-8 format, not ANSI or Unicode. It's usually a drop down option next to the file name box in your text editor.

From the PM Wiki:

"When creating your own text file for Autocomplete, make sure that you enter one word (or phrase) per line and that you save out the text file in the UTF-8 encoding if any of the letters you’ve entered have accents on them or are written in a non-Roman script such as Japanese (Hiragana, Katakana, or Kanji)."
 
I've run a few files through with accents, and that works without changing any settings in PM!
