Having decided to purchase a refurb Mac book pro, this after reading all the great advice from members posts. It was suggested without forking out monthly dosh that downloading Google nix editing software is now free would be a start. As I'm a computer dinosaur I was ok importing my photos from my sd card and downloading the software, but the problem is I can't seem to marry up my photos with the editing software. When I open the software no where does it say which photo do you want to edit.

I know it's pretty basic stuff to you Mac book users I've tried the various help tasks I am going to have an hour tuition at the Apple Store but there booked up till mid October.

I just wanted to ask someone to point me in the right direction as to what I'm doing wrong.Thanks.

Thank you for your explanation,it is far too complicated for me,I just don't understand.I am going to delete the software package.Could you advise on a editing package other than paying for Photoshop I don't want at this moment to pay £8 odd per month for access I am new to photography and certainly new to Mac book, maybe in the future I will but for now I need to play around with a package.

Can you find your photos (do you know where the Mac put them) or is it just a problem to get them into the editing software?

For basic editing you could try Fotor (free from the app store). There are also free image manipulation packages of varying degrees of complexity - are you saving in jpeg or NEF (raw data) format? You can also download adobe camera raw (ACR) software free of charge & get the same basic image development tools as in lightroom.

Really helpful thank you for your good advice,I'm going to try the suggestions you've all mentioned.

Don't forget the Photos app. It is great for photo management and basic editing/adjustiments. Included with every new Mac.
