I'm looking to enter some ...any suggestions, recommendations?

You didn't say whether you wanted tips for taking competition entry photo's or were looking for some competitions to enter. As I've yet to produce a Wow photo I can't offer too much advice on the tip front, but........

There's the POTY Competition on here !! - Different theme every month, usually quite challenging and extremely high standard....
You could also try this site http://www.photocompetitions.net to see if there's anything on there that tickles your fancy.

Thanks....appreciate that. BTW, Spend a bit of time over in Lee on Sea where my other half lives..

Nice one - Only up the road from here, the seafood's great on a Sunny Sunday...... Bit of a trek from Wales though !!!!

Whilst we're on the coincidence ride, just had a random email this mornng which had details of some competitions. Haven't checked any of them out yet, but some might be useful.....

That is just what I was about to caution against! It is definitely important to check - some organisations use a "competition" as a cheap way to get a new free image library - you might think this is an alright trade if you win, but if you don't you're just giving away your stuff for free!

Thanks Guys...Appreciate this..

Pro Imaging does a Rights On List which lists the ones which don't abuse your rights as a photographer. It seems to be out of date at the moment but some of them (like TPOTY linked above) are annual and it stands to reason that if they're on the list one year they will be again.

Totally agree with this. Not that I have any competition level images anyway, but I'd always be wary of this if you are considering entering any of your images into any competitions.

Unfortunately this is not entirely the case. Last Year's Airscene Calendar Competition was vetted by Pro-Imaging and was listed on the Rights On list. I used the same model for the rules of this years competition and requested vetting again, back in November of 2009, using the form they provide on their website. Again the request was put to them in January and again in February.

After getting no response I contacted Martin Orpen by telephone and it was agreed that I email him directly at pro-imaging and he would sort out the vetting for my competition and get it placed on the Rights On list. I did so - and still to date no response whatsoever.

I have not removed my links to the Rights On list, however am considering doing so. I do still support the intention behind the Rights On list, however the spirit by which it is compiled now seems to be dubious to me.

Recent changes to the way the lists are compiled is a big concern. It is now stated that they are now concerned with organisations rather than competitions. An invitation will be emailed to those organisations, and if they agree to becoming a Pro-Imaging sponsor, then their competitions will be added to the Rights On list. If however, they refuse the become a supporter OR if they ignore the invitation, they will be added to the Rights Off list.

So the Rights Off list now becomes a list of organisations who refuse the join the club, and not a list of unfriendly competitions out to grab your rights. Lets look at the inviation issue... I only supplied the email address used for last years competition to Pro-Imaging, so if they even bother to try and invite me, they will get it back "return to sender" - unless they bother to scour my site for current email addresses (which they clearly havent done yet, as I have not received my invite).

But lets say I do reply and accept my invitation, will they get it? I used their own forms on no less than 3 occasions, and emailed the webmaster directly, and never got a single response. So they either ignored or arent receiving all emails or forms sent to them - neither is a good scenario when they are prepared to put you on their Rights Off list for not joining the club!

Refusal to join Or ignoring the invitation? Lets get this straight... Pro-Imaging do not have a registered company or charity address listed on the website, the only address listed is a farm in Abergavenny. This doesnt matter to me personally, bany organisations will bother to research those who send emails to join them (or face being added to a Rights Off list) as it is in their best interests to do so.

If I were a business running a competition, and I received this invite, I would want to know what authority they are acting under, and their business credentials - neither of which are apparent, and therefore not requiring any response one way or the other, in fact the invite is very likely to be seen as spam.

So, is not responding or refusing to join the club grounds for adding them to the Rights Off list? I dont think so, and more appropriately, because of the stated intentions of the Rights On list, could lead to a court case if a single organisation which DOES respect the rules has a competition which is apparently damaged or defamed in any way by inclusion on the Rights Off list - very sticky ground.

Finally, it is stated that a lot of work is involved in re-vetting when an organisation puts a new competition up, or changes its rules. So the invite and acceptance will mean re-vetting will not have to take place (sure I read this right), and inclusion will continue for all future competitions. Without vetting each and every competition included on the list, what is to stop organisations signing up and then signing off? Surely the purpose of the Rights On list itself requires that the vetting process continues and is not dropped because Pro-Imaging dont have time to do it.

Running a website and an organisation of this nature takes a lot of time and hard work (not to mention working email) and I just dont think the people behind it can cut it right now.
