Is it a good idea to join the local photo club
will I be lost with all the advanced snappers?
WHAT DO YOU SAY.......

Some are truly awful and will deal a death blow to any real enthusiasm that they encounter.

There is one near me that is full of lovely, helpful and friendly people. Some very talented snappers too.

I guess what I'm saying is that you need to go along and have a look see for yourself.

I`d agree with that. Go and have a look, it`s the only way of knowing whether it`s for you.

As this thread is more about meeting people in general than meeting members from this site, i'm going to whip the pixies and scoot it over to a more suitable forum..........mind the doors please

:D

I've started going along to my local club's meetings........they are OK tbh and I've only nodded off twice so far

Most camera clubs in my area operate a policy where you can come along for the first two or three meetings to see if it is for you then you can join up
I have learned a lot from my local club and it is a mix of young and old and I found that the more experienced photographers are keen to point you in the right direction

I go to 2 of them in my aria just for the crack, passes a bit of time away.:D

As has been said, go have a look, what harm can it do? If you dont like, dont join.

I've been down to the Bolton Camera Club for the past couple of weeks, am
gonna join on Thursday........ Thats unless they've moved venue and run away ...

I get that a lot ...

i was going to check out my local photography club. i went on the club site and emailed to see if there were any youths my age who i could associate with, i found out the youngest were in their 30's but i still might go because i like "older" photographers as they seem to have more respect and critisicm is better.

Go for it. I think most clubs will let you pay extra on the door for non members, plus as the season is over half way through you may be able to join at a reduced rate until the summer to see what you think.

I'm a member of EKCC (East Kilbride Camera Club). It's a good club with some talented toggs, not that you learn much mind.

i went along to my local club once or twice, before work commitments made me travel 2 hours to and from:razz:

i found it an interesting night out, and is a good way to gain advice and meet some new people. they may also have club meetings or activities in the area going on.

worth a look i recon

I've only had a proper interest in photography for a few years so I'm pretty new to it and was a bit daunted by going along to my local photographic society because I was worried they'd all be old men that had been doing film photography for 50 years and know everything there is to know. I guess some clubs might be like that but I was lucky enough to find that there are some really nice and friendly members who arrange regular outings and share advice. There is a definate devide in the club between the older stuck in the mud members that are very traditional and the not necessarily younger but certainly more modern members. At 33 I am one of the younger members but there is a bit of a mix across all ages.

My advice would be the same as everyone else, go along and give it a try and if you find it's not for you then try another club as they are not all the same. With a bit of luck you'll find one you like with people that'll help you settle in and progress your photography. One thing I would advise is that when you do go along, make it clear to them that you are new, you're keen to join and you want to learn. See what feedback you get. If it is positive and they are welcoming then it's a good sign that you'll enjoy it there.
