Dear fellow Filmies,

As “Selfie” is the Oxford Dictionaries International word of the year for 2013 your challenge, should you choose to accept it, is to take a self-portrait photograph. I am hoping to see some creative shots from you all.

The only rules are for the photo to be taken on film (any format) and to have been taken during the period that this challenge is open. So no trawling of the archives for a photo making you look 10 years younger than you really are.

The challenge will run from today (2nd December) until the 2nd January 2014. Extended to the 16th January.

As always, should you caught or killed during this challenge, we will disavow any knowledge of your actions.

Good luck.

David

Anything goes, be as creative as you like.

Great idea. Did my first self portrait a while back and found it an interesting process.

Hmm well i guess i best comment here so it adds it to my watch list whilst i think!.. eek!... i done a few selfies for my 365 but still didn't stop me hating being that side of the camera...

you can just click 'watch thread" at top right ;)

I could have if i didn't want to join the conversation:p

Philosophical question - if I set up the camera, but someone else presses the button, is that a selfie? (the timer on my Yashica doesn't work)

Equally unless I do a macro of my face I've not got a cable release long enough.

A lot of Vivian Maier's selfies in her recent book were reflections, some mirrors, some hubcaps. Quite a few were shots of her own shadow too. Just a couple of ideas.

In my opinion that counts as a self portrait. As long as you have set it up, doesn't matter how the button is pressed; remote, self timer or someone else the result will be the same and the 'how' of how the button was pressed doesn't matter.

Forgot to add that I'm sure several of us own cameras either with faulty self timers, or no self timer at all and issues with short release cables etc...making it even more likely that we will need someone else to press the button.

 thanks for that Steveo...seems you know me a little too well :p:D

Well I think I may have a contender, I shall probably pop it in the thread tomorrow, hangover permitting.

Andy your selfie is brilliant!

New hair do, like it?

Got mine, just as well none of my mf cameras have a working self timer needed quite a few frames with my hit and miss approach with well... Anything. Just out the soup so I'll get it scanned tomorrow.

Much silver was spilled in the creation of that image, 12 seconds is a very difficult period of time to get to a natural looking position!

Any chance we can have a little extension to this challenge? Mine have got caught up in the festive period backlog.

Extending it would be frankly unprecedented and I'm not sure it should be allowed! ;)

As it's Christmas perhaps we can break with tradition and extend a deadline

If we extend the deadline to the 16th January hopefully this will help and we'll get some more entries.

Hmmm that may help me too actually, i had planned on saying i wouldn't be entering as i keep avoiding it and not even picked any cameras up, but i may boot my own Ass and try now

Thanks David, might get a chance to submit now

I've nt got a release for my eos5 so had to race the self timer... I think I've got three consecutive shots showing me falling over, knocking down the backdrop, head butting the dog... Was surprisingly fun though

Where are they then guys? :-)

I kept putting mine to the back of my mind... it would be so much easier if i had a damn mirror in this house excuses:D

Too late now

I've only taken half a dozen shots since the start of December for various reasons... 3 films in camera waiting to be finsihed and sent off for processing, so doesn't look like I'll be in this one, folks!

I'm sure I've one on a roll somewhere but there's a huge backlog to process so I think I'll have to admit defeat, sorry folks.

As it seems we are not getting any more entries I have closed this challenge and started a voting thread :)

Shame for me as I did mean to save a few shots on the film but with xmas snaps I run out of film and in January there is nothing worth taking to use the film up on another roll. Anyway my idea was something like this that I took about 30 years ago that might have been amusing and different:-
