Hi all

Pretty new to digital photography so forgive me if this is a stupid question.

I was wondering if there was some sort of cataloging software for photos that allows you to tag who each individual is in each photo and then allow you to search the photos based on this information.

Thanks

I've done this in Lightroom before, using tags, then you can search the metadata. I used this for rugby teams so I could produce an individual CD of images at the end of the season.

Also have a look at DBGallery's personal version (http://dbgallery.com). It's much easier to use and is specifically for tagging and searching, and has many other cataloging conveniences.

Digikam has very competent cataloging, search and tagging functions with good face recognition for big collections. It is free so you can give it a try. I manage my whole collection with it.
