Yes
Here is my dilemma.......some of you will know I got robbed once, when out on my own, and had all my camera gear stolen. I now have no desire whatsoever, to go out on my own, even in broad daylight, if I have my camera with me. Silly I know, but I have tried to get over this and I can't even though I'll happily spend hours around the shops etc, where there are loads of people, sans camera.

I have realised that taking photos outdoors is more attractive to me than indoor work. Hubby not that keen, unless we are away on hols etc., so rarely wants to come out whenever the muse is on me, so..........
How does one find a like minded body, willing to drop everything at a moments notice, grab their camera and come out to play?

I have the same problem (except I didn't get robbed, but a woman got knifed and sexually assaulted in area I used to go on my own). If you lived closer, I'd be your buddy. This is probably my main reason I haven't taken any photos for a long time. I don't like going out on my own anymore as I don't feel safe.

Your best bet would be to get an existing buddy interested in photography :)

Give us a clue then....what county are you in ?

Bob

On our Lowfly site in the Forums we have a little "Get togethers" forum where people can say where they are going to be and ask if anyone is interested in joining them. I am not talking major organised meets here but individuals looking for companions to go shoot a particualr place a particular day....don't know may be worth putting it to the Admin see what they think about putting such a forum here it may help.

Cheers
Bill

oldfarts suggestion is a good one. I've noticed lots of meetups in my area which are arranged through flickr groups. You should try searching the groups for your area and see what comes up. If you must go with just one other person then take a friend; someone that you trust won't run away if things get tough. Perhaps buy them a bottle of wine after as a token of your appreciation, little things like that help :)

How about joining a local camera club ?
You may find someone who you can buddy with.

Leics/Northants border.

I know I am taking risks every time I venture the streets of London on my own with the kit, but so far, so good **touches some wood**

However, as I reckon you must be somewhere near where M1 and M6 meet, if you wanna go out once in a while I am happy to drive the hour or so from the M25 up to you and maybe you could do the reverse occasionally. Drop me a PM if interested ;)

Otherwise, flickr and local camera clubs are probably your best bet for more local buddies

Isn't this a sad state of affairs..?
I am a fairly big bloke, but I too am slightly afraid when I have my camera on my person and am out alone. I went to the beach a fewq mornings ago to catch a sunrise (there wasn't one) and spent more time looking behind me than taking pictures.
Sorry to hear about your experience photostar 1, and I can't help, but I feel for you, and clearly, you are not the only one to feel this way, if that is of any help..

If the timing fits, I could provide the muscle (:shake:) as I guess you'd be very close to me.
Intriguing to meet the lady who may have been born in the same bed as me

Awwwwww thats sweet

I wish there were people round here to help me find my camera :|

Joining a photo club is a good suggestion, that way you can probably arrange with other members to go out out on a shoot, and the club probably run them as well.

A lot of town centres are almost no go areas at night now unless you are drunk or looking for trouble (or both)

:shake:

Its such a shame that we have to feel like this in our society these days...

Well I will put an offer on the table. I love going out and have to be honest have never felt scared but then again they would have to be pretty big or very stupid to take me on!!!

Sooooo..... If there is anyone who want to go out living in the SE London/Kent Borders then I would be happy to go out and visit the sights, watch the back and have generally great fun photography days out...

Sounds like a new forum thread shoud be started...

Any one can PM me for a day out.... its always more fun with someone else anyway...

:) :)

We are probabley not that far apart, I would happily "come out to play", but not at a moments notice I am afraid, I do have to work now and a gain ( or so the boss tells me, what a foolish man :D) but if you want to "arrange something" in advance let me know:thumbs:

When I lose something I always look in the last place I would think to look 1st, but the damned Pixie's always move it to the 1st place I should have looked  Bummer :bang:

I noticed you a mention "Location: soon to be Canada"
Where are you going? I've lived in Winnipeg Canada since 1977, it was a bad more from Portsmouth UK, and would love to move back.
Make sure you are 100% sure of your move, I know Winnipeg is not the best place, but other places like Vancouver and Toronto have their problems.
Our income tax is VERY high, and crime is on the increase.
Good luck
Brian

Hi Brian. I'm moving to somewhere in BC... about as much as I know at the mo! Am 110% sure of the reasons I want to move, and don't have rose tinted glasses on (not at the moment anyway ;) )

what you need is a "Ty"

cant say I have ever been particularly worried when out taking pics but then I nearly always have at least one of the dogs with me.

this is a "Ty" btw

Yup,

Looks like we could start a Northants section - I'm in Kettering as well.

I go to the Burton Latimer and District Photographic Society - we always welcome new members.

See http://www.blps.co.uk/.

If you are interested PM me, I'll give you the low down.

Cheers
