I want to make a photo of some of my favourite images. I have previously used Photobox for books for everyday use but want something of a higher quality. Can you recommend please?

Hello Chipper I have used the following company http://www.saal-digital.com/en/photobook/ around 6 weeks ago, and I have been left very impressed with the end result. The software they provide takes a little bit of tinkering with to understand, however, once you do its as simple as selecting from a predefined page template and dragging your images into the highlighted areas. I suspect if you have eve done any type of desktop publishing it should make sense very quickly, its got the usual options of like adding text and full page imagery etc.
Pricing can be a little steep, depending on your options but the end result is awesome, well packaged and finished to a very high quality.

I'm at work at the moment, but when I get home tonight I'll take a couple of photos of the photobook I had made, hopefully, this will help you.

Regards
Geoff

I will second Graham's suggestion of Blurb (with a caveat). I have used them a few times in the past and the quality cannot be faulted, however, cost is another story.
They are quite expensive IMHO. What I have found having used them and registered with them that they continually put offers out. This would suggest to me that they are too pricey and these offers are simply bringing the cost down to a realistic level.
I do like their software for creating a book. Its user friendly allowing the user to chop and change layouts easily.

I've used a few, and I find Blurb by far the best.

I used to use Albelli but since they were taken over by Bonus Print I've found both their photo books and canvasses have gone down in quality. The only product I order from there now are their acrylic prints.

Cost wise they are expensive, but there's normally 30% off codes about [emoji3]

Thanks. Will check them out, starting with Blurb

Another vote for blurb. Have used them for the last few years, software great to use, cannot fault the quality/finish & their delivery has always been spot on. However cost is a bit eye watering with out the discount codes. Usually 30% during the year & 50% at Xmas.

I'm only an occasional user of this forum, but must say I find it helpful in many ways.

Logged on this morning to look for reviews on photo books as I have plans to put together a few - too many images going unseen on my hard drives!

Reviews seem thin on the ground, unless someone can point me in the direction of something I've missed.

However, my pennies worth ................

I have just received a Canon HD photobook (tried their service using a 30% discount promotion picked up at the Photo Show, NEC).
Image quality cannot be faulted, but I don't think I could recommend the product to anyone - reasons:

Cost - Expensive even with discount.
Turn round time - 11 days (there was an apology note in with my order and a further voucher).
Quality of finished product - Looks and feels cheap! Cover seems to be just a wrap round type of white glossy paper, not well finished at the binding edge. Corners have not been folded well and stick out. Cover really looks very "home made" and well below a standard I would be happy with if I had made myself.

I was really disappointed with the product

Anyone else had experience with Canon HD books?

I have and alright would be my judgment, turnaround time was slow and didn't lay flat for photo spread over two pages.Didn't think it felt cheap and the finish on mine was fine, colours were good too, not sure about the software, parts were good others not.

Reckon there are much better out there for less money (won mine as a prize, so can't really complain)

Won another photobook earlier this year from this company http://www.vanillaphotobooks.co.uk/ end product looked nice from the samples I saw and looking forward to getting it made up

I'm sure Loxley have a discount on at the moment for their 'sample' books [emoji6]

Contacted customer support who asked for pictures of my book.

Response:

"Thank you for sending these images. We do apologise that the book you have received is not as it should be. We can confirm that we will re-print this and send a fresh copy as soon as possible."

Not sure if it's just me being grumpy and expecting too much, but where is the compensation for poor service!? Yes, I'm getting my photo book re-printed, but weeks after I placed my order and well after the birthday when it was to be given as a gift.

So, my experience with Canon HD photo book service hasn't been a great one ............ once bitten, twice shy!!

My reprinted book arrived 10 days later. Finishing off was much better and shrink wrapped - the first one was not.
Image quality is excellent, but still not impressed by the overall product.

Both of my books had an "apology for late arrival" voucher (20% off next order).

Hi - just following up on this thread.

Anyone able to give me an approximate price for a 40 page (80 images) photobook 25cm x 20cm from blurb ? - with a 40% discount would it come under £50 ?

Also approx how long would it to create in terms of setup ? - i'm thinking 3-4hours.....is this realistic ?

TIA,
Mike.

Another vote for Blurb here! Excellent quality.

Prices are on Blurb UK website - choose your paper & cover options & factor in the page count.

Time can be open-ended - picture selection, picture preparation, layout, text ...

For what it's worth I don't use their software, I use a page layout program for more precise control. And soft-proof the images.

Any ideas on time as ultimately will determine what i charge. Can they be created in less than half a day ?
