Within the next month I shall be upgrading my phone (o2 locked)

I have narrowed it down to 2.

1) Samsung Galaxy S4 (Having recently owned an S2 and a note)

2) Sony Xperia Z (The waterproofing appeals immensely!)

Would be interested in anyone's real experiences of either phone as the reviews on the interweb are all over the place, though on average the samsung is marginally ahead on reviews. Obviously I will go and try them out and have a play before the decision....

Please - polite bit here - I have narrowed it down to one of these 2. I am not in the slightest interested in any other phone so no HTC or apfel fanboys!!!

Lastly, am I likely to get a better deal from O2 direct or from something like carphone warehouse.... need to be on O2 as live in a rural location and by far the best coverage locally..

Many thanks...

I dont have the Xperia Z but the one down from it - its OK, few little niggles with it. I moved from an iphone and the screen on the Sony is not too responsive to touch, sometimes takes a few attempts to unlock the screen with a swipe. Camera is good, decent colours, good for music etc. Think CPW TalkTalk is also O2.

I've just received the Samsung Galaxy S4 today. I was very interested in the Xperia Z but a few issues with it put me off. The screen is apparently quite poor, the S4's screen is put way ahead of the Z in every comparison. Secondly, it seams to have rather a lot of bugs.

I haven't actually used the S4 yet, am waiting until tomorrow as I have an interview to prepare for (which I should be doing right now... :bonk:), but will report back once I've had a good play with it (the phone you dirty b*****d) if you want.

Z looks fine but feels like a brick in hand...like the design but edges make it feel uncomfortable to hold.
My opinion:)

And I went for note2 instead of S4;)

Mrs has the Z, real nice bit of kit, camera's really good, screen's not as vivid by my Xperia s, phone also has a glass back, which I don't think will last in the hands of my wife lol.

There is a dust/moisture resistant S4 coming out in a couple of months, it may be worth waiting for it :)

Ive been using the S4 for just over a week now, and really like it. I came from an iphone 4s. Nice and easy to use, and to me seems that everything is where it should be. The screen is fantastic, and ive enjoyed the level of customisation possible. Not too big, the weight feels about right, and the camera is fantastic. Not sure why I stuck with iPhone for so long to be honest. I haven't come across any bugs so far.

Xperia Z!

Taking phonecalls and playing music in the shower is a benefit I now refuse to live without!

thanks all for your responses...

can you upgrade online? if not look at the current Quidco deals before you head down to CPW/o2 and mention them, quite often now they will credit your account with that amount to get your custom.

have no experience with the 2 phones you mention but I have had very poor experiences with sony android in the past on both phone and tablet form, the waterproofness is very VERY appealing tho.

if I didn't use the pen function on my note 2 so much and it was upgrade time it would be the S4

you're doing the smart thing by going and trying them out.

A vanilla Android version of the S4 is coming out. If I was leaning towards the Samsung I'd wait for that rather than the standard bloatware version.

I've got a Samsung S3 on the back of my daughter buying an S2 and think it's great but it's very plasticy and doesn't look very robust. This has proven to be the case as dropping it twice has resulted in the screen smashing twice. I had HTC's before, dropped them loads of times with no damage.

The S4 does look better built though, so as long as it is I would go for one of them.
