Almost Got me -Phewww

Received a phone call this morning and the operator told me someone with a USA location (I`m in the UK) called Mr Crow had drawn £600 from my Debit account ..The Caller asked ""do you know this person"" ? No was my replay - in that case your account has been compromised - A little bit of double talking and this Woman ( sounded Asian or Indian - decent english accent ) asked me to open a google page from my phone - I did this and she proceeded to tell me to type into the google page these words ... MY-IP-ADDRESS etc etc ... Obviously I didn`t type anything into Google as it became clear to me she was trying to gain access to my Phone ..

Disgusted and angry that could have gotten Scammed ,I stopped her in her tracks and said , no no no why don`t you just go **** yoursef .. she replied with ""And You too"" then hung up the phone ....

Thats the second time this has happened , Once via TEXT message a few weeks back , Once via Phone call this morning ... the thing that links them both is that they were Very Early in the morning - Obviously designed to catch you out when you`re still sleepy and not thinking straight which I have to admit ,I almost did fall for the Text message SCAM . Luckily I decided to leave it until later in the day to address the Text message ..

BEWARE - these scammers are up to all sorts ....

I receive very few scam call on my mobile as I rarely use it and give the number to so few. However, I used to get many scam calls on my landline but since I have now installed a new phone system with BT Truecall and not one unwanted call has got through.

Worrying!

Though I still stick with my thought that no Bank (or legitimate organisation) will phone you and ask you for anything personal to be inputted into anything. Afteral, you would not reveal your PIN to anyone claiming to be from your bank!

However, yes the scammers are cunning & wily and aim to 'catch' the unwary and do their con trick on you. Thus, clearly the opening lines are to scare you about the security of your money or property and deflect any thoughts that 'they' the caller are the problem :(

The thing that always irritates me is when a bank or other financial business sends me an email containing links.

I would instead like to see a rule that bank emails must have a prominent message at the top, to the effect that no financial institution will ever send you a message with a link on it. That would close down one avenue for the scammers.

I just stick to my rule.

Don’t tell anyone anything, at the door or on the phone. I shred everything that has our name or address on it. If it is not able to be shredded I burn it.

I got a similar call to the OP, I laughed and told the caller," lucky B*stards", I never have that much in the bank, He then asked me to do similar to the above, I just kept saying "yep done that" while doing nothing, caller was concerned it wasn't showing at their end, got bored after a bit and hung up.

I got a similar scam call a week or so ago. .

Went along the lines of

“This is your bank or credit card fraud department. A suspicious transaction for £600 to a foreign country was made on your card within the last half hour. If you didn’t make this transaction then press 1”

It didn’t ring true with me and I hung up, so don't know how the scam developed, but can see how folk may get caught out.

Just in case by scam radar was malfunctioning I checked my online accounts for any unusual activity and found nothing untoward.
