Phone data connection never works

Ive a HTC One X and am happy enough with it apart from the fact it never seems to connect to the internet or handle other data things, Multi media messages etc. Its fine when its got a wireless connection but move it away from that and it stops working. I can send normal texts fine, but i cant receive MMS's, connect to the internet or run any app that requires a connection.

As far as settings go i have WiFi on, Bluetooth off, Mobile Data always says "Disconnected because service is not available", in the Mobile Data setup menu i have Data Roaming on, network mode GSM/WCDMA and the network shows up as Vodaphone. It was an Orange phone though which i got unlocked to work with my vodaphone sim and im on a PAYG sim card.

Is it down to the unlocking from Orange to Vodaphone or just a missing setting or just broke?

Could have guessed it was Vodafone. That's most likely the cause.

Well they were fine with my last phone, a Samsung s3

You need the Vodaphone APN (Access point names) settings on the phone if it hasn't got them on already.
