Daily Phil's 2013 365 challenge 1/1/2013 All Done!!!!!!!!

Good shot of the lightning. It was a 1 second exposure, right? So did you take a lot of shots until you got lucky with the lightning? Or was it 1 minute?
I ask cos I did some a while back with 30 second exposure just hoping that the lightning would strike 'during' the exposure. A lot of pot luck! Would like to know how you managed it. Cheers.

205 is nearly there I'd say

Butterfly is delightful and those mountains look gorgeous.

Thanks Sarah

Great catchup, love the butterfly!

Thanks Jake. More butterflys and bees coming up soon.

Thanks Bob. I too tried 30 second exposures and indeed longer as the storm went on for ages but the lightening never seemed to show up in them even though it definately happened during the exposure. I think now that i was over exposing them and basically wiping it out. This was done by almost continuous 1 second exposures using the remote until i eventually cayght a flash. Luckily they were coming very regularly

Another good catch up Phil, not sure why you are unhappy with day 205, looks fine to me. Nice even black background with no horrible cloning marks that so often appear in these, so that says to me you shot it right.

Thanks Sarah. I really need to work on this kind of stuff. I bought a double sided black / white background a couple of weeks ago that i hoping to use to get a few decent baby shots when ours comes along in 4 weeks or so.

Day 211. The 6 collie pups with their mother. Sorry its only a quick grab shot, its all i had time for. Will try to get something better of them on tuesday when i am back.

Day 216. Almost a self portrait. This is Jess but she wouldnt keep her eyes wide open for me. Izzy has bigger eyes but doesn't like me sticking the camera in her face.

Like the bee as well & those aliums are very pretty.

As for the background for the baby, you should be fine, just make sure it's not too close behind the subject so you can keep it dark and not let too much light spill on it, if you shoot RAW as well, you can adjust the blacks in a shot as well. A friend bought a black velvet background a while ago and that is very good.

Love 216!! Neat idea!

BTW thanks for the explanation re the lightning shots. Continuous 1 second shots! Never would have thought of that!

Bee stands out for me. Nice work Phil.

Thanks Sarah. My lighting for stuff like that may not be great, it may be a steep learning curve

Love the puppies Phil

Thanks Vince

Day 218. Back to see the puppies on Tuesday again. They are really flying now and all 6 spend ages wrestling with each other. Comical!

Sorry I've not been around for a while

lovely catch up - particularly like the pup (natch ;)) Millie and the last flower ones.

Day 222. Sorry, this is only a quick shot with my phone. This was the day that i did the charity walk in the Mourne Mountains. Just over 19 miles covered, total ascent 2850 meters over the 7 highest mountains in the range. That is my brother in front of me. Took a total of 10 hours, 29 minutes

Congrats on dong the walk

You do have some beautiful scenery for walking through

Day 225. Pups again. There is all 6 in this pile. I am probably going to be keeping 1 or 2 of them for the next few months until they are old enough to start training. The owner of the mother wants to keep all 6 until they are trained so needs a few people to keep 1 or 2 for him.
