That's beautiful - what are they? (apart from 'flowers'!). Great focus and DOF and lovely colours

Day 40. I spent an hour this afternoon out in the rain with a few good looking birds. Here is one of them.

Nice focus, good DOF and what a wonderful setting for the bird - so refreshing to see one not on a branch!!! (Most of mine are on branches. Or pavements!). That one leg up looks like he's posing for you! I also love the composition which has a 'different' feel to it somehow - maybe the looking to the right instead of the more 'normal' left (as the viewer sees it)? Really like this!

Im officially too old to be out drinking until 3 am :(:(:(

Thanks Sam. I have a hide set up close to this piece of old black oak in my garden and a couple of feeders hanging above it so it is pretty easy to get a few shots like this. There is one similar to this in the first few days of this challenge.

I turned my ipad the other way up to see what it looked like turned through 180, but it auto-rotated :bonk: so I am thinking he had it right as it is :D

Lol. It probably should have been rotated but that is the way it came out of the camera because of the way I leant bavkwards to take the shot.

Lovely bird shot, is it a juvenile greenfinch?

Its a greenfinch anyway, no idea what a juvenile would look like at this time of the year.

wow what a gorgeous bird shot phil..... beautiful setting:thumbs:

Day 39 = Great colours, Day 40 great composition Phil , nice work pal

Oh both of those are wonderful  don't worry about not calling in every day, I'm trying to but this last week or so I'm been busy so it's only been every couple of days :bang:

Thanks Vince and Matt. Today's isnt going to be exciting, im playing with nephews toys at the minute:p

Day 41. Suffering slightly after a late night out last night and given that it has rained here solidly all day, today's photo was never going to be great. I ended up playing with some of the nephews toys and trying to work a bit with off camera flash. Any experts on this on here? I can get the off flash to fire but the built in one on the camera fires too despite it being in commander mode and it being turned off in the camera menus. Anyway, here is today's.

I really really like it Phil! The background colour is what makes it; I don't think it'd have worked as well with black or white.

Suffering!..... I have no sympathy for you at all......( because i'm jealous):lol:

Like this.... good for a hangover shot.... it's cute!

38 works for me - I am a fan of "detail" shots, especially machinery and rusty stuff ;)

The heather is beautiful, very vivid colours, bird works too - and I don't think I've got to the use more than one flash at a time page of my book yet, so can't help you there I'm afraid

Thanks Tracey:p Im suffering the same unfortunate affliction as you did in January, im turning 40 this week, so my brother and sister took me out last night. Good night despite not feeling so great today.

Oh of course!! the big 40..... I'll let you in to a secret... i am fine if i don't say 40... lol... it's everyone else that keeps reminding me saying things like ooh you've been 40 2 weeks 3 weeks etc how does it feel............. they need shooting! lol

Yea, that is happening already, everyone mentioning 40 except me. Im going that day to climb a couple of mountains to get away from it all:D And im bringing my brother who is 6 years younger than me to prove I am still fitter than him:D

A little catch up here Phil...

Loving the fish pic, captured the colours superbly, and not easy to judge shooting towards a tank. The crazy angle of the snow shot really makes the pic for me. It's a different perspective and a little belter .

The sunset on Day 37 for me doesn't really work, sorry fella :(, the blown out part of the river in the bottom right hand corner, and the branch on the bottom left are too much of a distraction, but it's definitely one to maybe re-visit at some point. The machinery shot is really nice, works for me, and suits mono well .

Day 39 is a corker, really vibrant colouring, great dof and sharp detail too. Great shot of the bird too, again great detailing.

Today's toy shot, works really well, good dof and works brilliantly against the background. Regarding your question about the on camera flash while using off camera, I'm sure if you turn the power of the on camera flash right down to as low as it will go, it shouldn't make much difference to the shot you're trying to get using off camera flash :).

The bird shot is great! :) Really sharp and well caught!

Trying hard to catch up on the past few days. I think the heather is my favourite, beautiful colours and so sharp.

lovely bird shot nice capture and the last one is just plain cute!

Day 39 is fantastic. Lovely colours!

Thanks for the comments everyone. I'm trying to get today's sorted at the minute, not very happy with the shots i have.

Day 42. The hazel in the hedge round my garden is coming into bud and it has this odd tiny pink flower appearing. The shot didnt come out as well as i would have liked, im going to try this again i think.

I love it when everything starts to bud, but I think you slightly fluffed the focus here, nice colours though

That's a cute toy there! I was in Wilkos today and saw a couple of little toys and actually thought 'Ohh, that would be good for a 365' which is quite sad since I don't even have children who could use it!

Love to see some nice signs that spring is almost sprung! :)

I know, I think I was too close and even with manual focus it wasnt right.

Think the focus is on the bud, but would have been improved by the bud facing the camera & being a bit larger in the frame. But good to see some signs of spring.

The bud was facing in to the hedge and that was zoomed in and as close to it as I could get. Will maybe attempt this again in a week.

It's so cold and snowy again here it seems like spring is ages away!... sweet shot even if focus isn't spot on
