For those of you "oop north" there's a fabulous opportunity to see the work of Philip-Lorca diCorcia at the Hepworth Gallery in Wakefield.

Feb 14th to June 1st

It will feature work from Hustlers, Streetworks and Heads amongst others.

Go see some real photographs from a real photographer hung on a wall for a change!

It'll get you out of the house if nothing else :)

only 6 miles from me, i do like some of his work, a lot of his stuff looks like its a still taken from a Movie, not too keen on some of his subject work though but thats down to the bigot in me.

It definitely looks worth the trip, we haven't been to the Hepworth yet.

The guy is awesome, and seeing his work in print is a privilege. Go along and take a look.

Not that far so worth a trip.

However a lot of his work is uncomfortable and posed to the last detail, but still has a lot to say. Others are the result of changes to those plans which can be easier on the (my) eye. He is a photographer of his time.

Not sure what you mean here.
Like his male prostitute series that he pre-set up in motels with the lighting and poses prearranged, and then went onto the streets to hire a prostitute as the model.
it seems the models got almost no direction on which to focus.
Of course his work covers a wider area than that, but it is all highly thought out and meticulously executed and very much his own.

That's kind of what makes them work. The model has no direction... so it's raw, and real, yet the lighting was beautifully crafted in a way that could never be possible if he just approached the hustlers in the street.

Isn't that kind of the point? They're real people. There's plenty of posed fashion, art and editorial photography out there already.
What is different is that they are put into position, in an unfamiliar place, with lighting pre set up and sort of left to it.
It is a very strange situation for them to find them selves in, with a lot of potential for something different. It is both posed but then undirected,

I was not complaining.
